Spot for My Front Entry Cam

Please help a newb pic the right spot for this camera.

I acquired an NVR and turret camera from Nelly’s on cyber Monday. I will be installing myself and this is my first rodeo.

It’s 2.8 mm turret for an overview of front walk/entry. I also bought a doorbell camera.

I was thinking in one of the corners as shown, but this may be too far away from front door? I appreciate any input.

Test the spots and see what works best, remember to have a friend wear a hoodie and cap acting as the prowler and have another person attempt to ID.

Use something like this setup to help out.
My test rig: rev.2

Also remember with a 2.8mm lens the camera will have a short ID distance, thus why I like to place a 2.8mm at face level by the front door.

Normally video doorbells camera may not be placed in the most ideal position for a camera, thus I like to have both a proper camera and video intercom/doorbell covering the front door area.

Test do not guess.

test the camera, place it at 6-7 ft up on the right side of the front door.
It is a pain to mount a camera on brick, but you have a one story house access from the attic is straight forward. , drill holes in the mortar not the brick.
I have not had any success with door bell cameras. I think a talking door bell is a marketing gimmick, in the real world in not useful, often does someone ring the door bell, will it prevent your packages from getting stolen.
The camera mount at eye ball level will do more.

Thanks for the replies. I was really wanting to go under eave/soffit mount and not drill into brick. Sounds like the concern is that this would be too high?

@Seminole Installing a Dahua starlight turret with variable zoom would still be a possible option for soffit mount in either of the 2 locations in your first post. (I assume the soffit height is less than 10 ft?)

The variable zoom will help you fine tune to ensure that you can get a good face shot from the distance to the front door.

Personally, between the 2 locations, I would consider mounting a turret on the left side to observe intruder as he walks up to your front door and turns to his left briefly towards the turret.

Yes, less than 10 - I like the left side, too for the reason you mentioned. I was planning to put it on that corner, but after reading posts here, that seems too far away from walk/entry.

Thanks for the tips on the variable focus. I got such a deal on the 2.8 fixed, that I will need to run with that for now....
