Where just talking about the overexposure problem, which also shown in the few official videos on dahua channel. Its somehow hard for me to fight against it.

For sure, the 4MP will be a benefit at day against the 2MP.
But in my opinion has nothing to do with the overexposure of certain parts even if there is no sun.



yeah, not sure if its related to the content/situation of the picture.
I think i will reset the cam at first, maybe it will help.

The night screens you where showing shows the same for me, contrastless face and person, which happens fast.
If you watch the video from jmcu you will see much better face.
But you may also notice the overexposure on his tshirt.

i still searching for some good settings having a good contrast on the face, not wash out most details.
I haven't done much to adjust settings at this point other than guessing, and mostly on the exposure/gain side of things. With the snow right now I both don't want to be outside and not sure I would get an accurate representation. Hopefully I will be able to get back to it soon.

Interesting, looks like a faux-varifocal containing 3 lens with 3 different fixed focal lengths; definitely useful for very specific applications I presume :)

With 8 IRs, I would assume IR Blasting would be hard to control but I have never had that many IRs. Maybe turn off the close up one, have a light On for that area if close to the house?

Having not experienced snow much down South, is it an IR killer (reflective)?

It can be both LOL.

In some instances it allows for much more reflection and brighter images and captures.

In some instances it has kept some of my cams in color.

And in some instances it messes with exposure if the snow is too close and you get IR bounce back to the camera.

When it's coming down? Yea, it can be bad. Not as bad as static on the TV, but similar. My rear camera was being alerted non-stop.

Generally, it helps at night. I just wanted a worst case capture, and also with the path not being cleared no one has been able to walk back there.

Another question:

Can you try
auto mode, HLC 50, infrared auto mode on distant channel ?

Or shutter 20, gain 30, infrared auto ?

Sounds maybe bit stupid.. on my testing it looks like the distant channel start noising with too low gain/shutter fast, which ends in worse picture than with higher gain/shutter than someone would dial in on 5442

I can, but I doubt I will get anyone walking by at night.
 
Here are two videos, one with lower gain/higher shutter and one with higher gain/lower shutter
For my eyes the camera start to noise fast with higher gain values. Looks like higher shutter is not that bad, because of the IR beam.
This is also true for too low shutter values combined with low gain. All channels start to noise resulting in worse image than with higher values.
When the infrared of the triple cam is used for the 5442AS and 5442ZE, you notice how much light the IR give. The included infrared of both 5442 is not as strong.
But you also notice how bright the image on 5442 is, even with lower shutter. As we all might notice, the 5442 can use higher gain values without noising so fast.
Situations might differ. The area is not that big as the area of jmcu footage, so it might that the camera perform better in bigger areas.
The mounting looks ok to me because of the seperated areas of the infrared shown earlier.

I am not an expert, so if someone has hints for better settings to test, feel free to post.

Encoding:
Triple Cam H264H 8192 CBR 15FPS Iframe 15 on all channels
5442 H264H 10240 CBR 15FPS Iframe 15

Note: the 5442 image was reduced to FullHD resolution with Adobe Premiere.
