Trump asks Putin to spare the lives of thousands of Ukraine troops that have been encircled estimated to be 10K+.
Putin did say they can surrender or get killed. Remember Ukraine troops went into mainland Russia Kursk to achieve two things to force Russia to redeploy troops from Ukraine regions and also use it as a bargaining chip.
Unfortunately for Ukraine, this incursion alone costed 60K troops KIA while Russia just used their Chechen forces to hold the line and also used NK troops. While the main Russian forces continued their advance along the full ukraine contact line.
Currently Putin decides how this war ends. He has all the cards.
Every drop of blood shed over this whole shit show lays solely on the Crackhead.
The Donbas region was primarily russians. They want to be part of Russia.
The Crackhead could have given what his people wanted, but instead murdered his own population.
I hope Russia takes over that entire corrupt place, along with the UK. Russia deserves them, because the UK and Ukraine governments have both proven themselves to be unfit to be able to manage dog pound, much less a country.

Little Russia in New York is the home to the largest population of Russians in the US. The area is predominately Russian. Should they take over New York because they want to be Russian and the are is predominately Russian?
How about if the Mexican or Cuban Latinos decided to declare independence from the US and take over large swathes of the US as Mexico / Cuba, because the areas were predominately Latino?
Wonder what Americans would think of that.
This is also exactly what happened in Moldova, where Russians took over part of another country that was no longer Soviet because they wanted to be Russian (now Transnistria and lies within Moldova).

As I've said numerous times, there won't be peace. Wherever there are settlements giving away land, ther is more war. Prime example atm, Israel / Palestine. All it buys is a few years whilst both sides rearm and then you get even worse conflict that you had orginally. History shows time and time again that appeasement of dictators doesn't work. The only way to stop war is decisively win it in a way that ensures your enemy can't or realises it's futile to come back for more.

I didn't see Ukraine invading Russia at the start of the war.....
As for cost, it could have been over long ago if the West had initially supplied Ukraine with enough weapons and systems. It was the fact they were drip fed and the fact they were denied many systems such as Western Tguns, Tanks, Artillery, Javelin, Himars etc initially until in some cases years into this war, that enabled Russia to gain so much land and cause such attrition / damage. The initial invasion in the North drew comparisons with the Road to Basra. A few Apaches or A10's or even fighter jets with cluster munitions could have totally wiped out the initial invading force in a few hours with a great deterrent cost to Russia, but they couldn't as they didn't have the means. There was a huge Russian convoy from the Border nearly all the way to the capital Kiev in the centre, hundreds of miles of equipment and personnel all lined up in columns on roads they couldn't leave due to soft ground, and they went all but unchallenged apart from at the very tip of the column because Ukraine didn't have the means to bomb / attack them whilst trapped. Only the West can take the blame for that with it's lack of initial support. The blame can also be laid at the West's door for ignoring the 2014 invasion and appeasing Russia, another classic example of what happens when you do, as this was the foothold for the later invasion..

You should read more about what happened in 2014. the West (US) essentially overthrew the Ukraine government and installed their own. Ukraine bombed their own people in areas nearest Russia.
This was about NATO expansion and broken promises by the West.
As far as the armchair battle strategy, good luck with that. You would have had massive escalation and Russia wouldn't have just rolled over. The thought that we can easily take out Russia or defeat them without consequences by throwing some US air assets into the mix in Ukraine is fantasy. Where were the EU planes...???
Stick to your appeasement theory, history won't see it that way. For now, we (the US) just need to be out. The EU will handle it from here. I'm sure they'll just stick some air assets up, 10-20,000 troops, fire a few fancy missiles and it'll all be over.
The bigger fun will come watching the EU try to actually manage that corrupt piece of land going forward even if they get all of the former Ukraine land back and Russia pulls out tomorrow. (it wont) .You'll be babysitting that piece of dirt for a very long time while the military contractors get rich and your government keeps you focused on that while they rape your country and import another 10 million Muslims
