@hmjgriffon at 8hrs per loop to your SD, even with a good brand of consumer card, that is three writes per day. you will be lucky to get one year of life or there about, so it would be good to change things if possible (larger card, less recording, more compression, etc).
i've got a high endurance card made for video recording 24/7, why would I change things in such a way that do not meet my requirements? this is meant to record 24/7 in case someone breaks in and steals the blue iris machine, i've still got video on the cameras, if it last a year, or two, or whatever, it was $20 for the card, very cheap insurance, I'll just buy more lol.

all good points. i agree. just pointing out the limitation, and supporting the advantage of increased compression to the card's life.

yes, if I could figure out how to get the damn sub stream do to h.265 I'd have more compression, and if you know how to make it appear in the drop down of resolutions, I'd be grateful. :)

Ordered via Andy on Aliexpress for UK Delivery. Recieved a sms text message from DHL informing me that I need to make a "payment for importation" £4.01
Is this normal?
How did you pay. My link was broke and the DHL driver didn't ask for the 4quid on delivery ?

Also cant find the specs for external power adapter as ive decided not POE.
wil 12v = 1000ma be good ?

This is my Hikvision 2DS2142 4MP in night mode, I thinking about replacing it with this camera. What could I expect, how much better would it work in these conditions and how much details would I loose due to the reduced resolution?

Thanks in advance :)

Look at nayr's 1st post. He had links to the spec sheets. Should be there.

resolution aint the end all be all, a lower res image that isn't noisy and deals with the low light much better will look a hell of a lot better.

Yeah that's what I understood after lots of reading here, but I don't know how good or bad my current image is?

Do you have any other areas that you might want to install a camera? If so you could just buy one and test it out for yourself. And if you like it better, put the new one in this location and put your current camera somewhere else that's looking at something less important.

But, considering your current camera isn't doing anything other than possibly identifying someone using your grill and letting you know nobody has stolen your house, I'd suggest installing the new camera near the back door to ID someone trying to break in.

Since this thread was started a few months ago, quite a few people have shared videos and pictures from their 5231s. Might be worth going back to the beginning and scanning through for them. Since you're just looking for pictures/videos, shouldn't take long.

parts are kind of washed out a little from all of the light directly in front of it shining into the lens, that doesn't help, how good or bad it is is subjective, but I can promise a 2mp starlight will look better at night, the hik may be sharper in the day when lighting is really good, but it's a surveillance camera.

DHL Surprise delivery, got me a Z5 Starlight Bullet sitting here in a box :D

unfortunately the weather is quite poor and I'm not willing to risk damaging the thing on my test rig.. so ye'll have to wait for the sun to come out before I string network cables across the yard :)

Weather here isn't bad, so you can send it to me. :)

Can't wait for the review on that one.

i'm kinda hoping it works well for LPR, though I don't think I'd wanna shell out for another ultra z5 so hopefully the regular starlight z5 works well

I'm trying to convince the woman that 2 cameras on each side of the garage won't be bad. :) I'd like to use a turrent for LPR but not sure if that will work.

Colorado is full; you can stay in Florida.. please :p

I wanted my family to follow me out; but right after I got settled in property values freaking skyrocketed for some reason and now nobody can afford to buy anything here.. One of the reasons I just bought an SUV is because every friggin weekend all summer long every campsite is full; if you didnt reserve a site on a holiday weekend back in January your already fucked.. the only places left are the ones that are hard to get too and require you to bring everything cuz you wont be getting a toilet :p
