WOW! You just TOTALLY opened my eyes.

So we're talking about the software with respect to to the ARM series of CPUs, yes?

Have you disassembled this unit?
Is this a BGA, soldered CPU?
I assume this isn't an SoC ... or firmware and software wouldn't effect it.

Do you mod the software? Or the firmware? Or is this (within this context) linguistically regarded as one and the same?

AM I ABLE TO UPGRADE.... the CPU in these?

If it's not BGA... and the kernel isn't absolutely specific to the model CPU and proprietary for surveillance with only 1, per generation; then why couldn't I modify the CPUs as desired to, say, quad-cores... faster cocks, etc?

Do these have GPUs? Or something that operates as it?

Are these things basically android phones inside?? That would be effing fantastic, if so.

Is this something that's been explored? I'm assuming SOME ONE... has done a tear-down, yes?

First unpack it:
Dahua-Firmware-Mod-Kit/extract.py -c HX4X2X-Themis -v General_SD-Zi-Themis_Eng_P_Stream3_IVS_V2.400.0000.16.R.20160517.bin

Change to the extracted dir:
cd General_SD-Zi-Themis_Eng_P_Stream3_IVS_V2.400.0000.16.R.20160517.bin.extracted

Open check.img.raw.
Replace "English" with "SimpChinese"
Save it :p

Finally repack it:
Dahua-Firmware-Mod-Kit/build.py -c HX4X2X-Themis -v .

Now you can flash General_SD-Zi-Themis_Eng_P_Stream3_IVS_V2.400.0000.16.R.20160517.bin that is in the build/ directory.
The camera will accept it because it thinks the image is a chinese one (but it isn't muahah)

Obviously you need GitHub - BotoX/Dahua-Firmware-Mod-Kit: Unpack and repack Dahua IP camera firmware upgrade images. and all the required dependencies.
Hi @cor35vet!

My Dahua NVR model is 单盘位经济型NVR 21HS-S1系列 - 1盘位 - 浙江大华技术股份有限公司
It is local chinese products, and only chinese language.

I have test 3 times (3 files downloads frm your post) on 3 differents cams, exactely the same. I have this message

" illegal update, update fail, need to reboot"
any idea?

I have this issue with one of my new HDW4233C-A "V2"'s as well. Another "V2" came with english firmware. I'm trying to get the English firmware from the seller so I can update the Chinese one.

I no longer have the boxes to compare, but I ordered two cameras from two different sellers and both had "V2" after the model and the font on the sticker was thicker/bold. Internals looked identical, but neither camera will take the EOS firmware.

I own a Dahua HDBW 4431R-AS and I have been following his thread for some time now. I knew I could not update (official) firmware on my Aliexpress cam when I made the purchase, but I'm always curious and convinced somebody will find a way.

Today I updated my cam with the info in the start post, although my cam already had v20161209. Reason I tried it anyway, was because the cam didn't produce an image for approx. 10, 20 seconds after connection (I use gDMSS lite usually), which is quite annoying.
Just wanted to share with you, that it now works as expected: the stream starts within 2 seconds after connection. Don't know exactly what's different in this version (or maybe it just needed a very hard reset, although I did the internal button reset and the go to default option), but I'm happy with the result.

you need this firmware version
DH_IPC-HX4XXX-Eos4_Chn_PN_Stream3_V2.600.0000.4.R.20170605.bin
If you change anything in this version of the firmware, change the checksums and the firmware will not to update

Hi, does the firmware for 4431c allow for IVS functions to work?
I have been using the 4431c from aliexpress sellers, and even though the IVS functions are there it wont allow you to use any of them.

Hi, new here to the forum, and found this topic while 'googling' for a problem I've got with my Dahua IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS

I'm unable to reach the camera after it has been working for weeks (with english firmware).
When is set a ping -t to the IP of the camera, the ping goes Ok for like 30-50 times and then it looses the connection for about 5-10secs and then the ping goes fine again.
The Dahua config tool does find the IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS once in a while (10 times refresh). I tried v1 of the tool and the latest available on ConfigTool - Dahua Wiki

But I cannot modify the configuration of the IP camera.

As I also do have a IPC-HDBW4431R-AS which is working fine, I tested the configtool/webbrowser etc. and this goes fine for that camera.
No problems with that camera, using it flawless over 8 months (set with reboot every night)

Reading through this topic I think the IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS is in a boot loop.

What steps should I take?
I checked the arp -a table, no duplicate IPs
I already tried telnet on port 23/2300 but this keeps Connect Failed.

Have you tried resetting it to default via the button / pad on the PCB?

Not tried to reset, as the camera is positioned on a 5m high wall ( I need a ladder to reach it)
I can do this tomorrow or this weekend.

For me it helped with this model in bootloop. After flashing with the firmware @cor35vet did for me it's working since weeks without problems.

Probably best to test it on a bench then, bad wiring or power delivery could also be at fault.
Cor35vet, back from exams?
Yeah they ended a month ago :p
However also kinda tired of dealing with hardware I don't own and shitty SoCs without SDKs, it's not fun.
(I only own HDW4431C Eos cameras btw.)
I'll probably update the Themis firmware soon™ however.
