Hmm, recently I posted here about the camera not recording (or not recording on time) when using tripwire. (here)
I have the same with my new (thanks @EMPIRETECANDY) IPC-HDW5231R-ZE. Changed IVS to intrusion area per @aristobrat, which reduces false negatives quite a bit, but doesn't mitigate completely (based on another camera of different brand mounted nearby). OTOH, true positive rate is better than my old camera. Using Target Filter Min Size of (0,0) appears to be best (again low false negatives), but do y'all have recommendations on this parameter? My intended use-case is as an ALPR.

From the point where you are taking the video with the camera to the end of your driveway, what is the approximate distance? Now that I have the mounting locations, I need to identify specific cameras based upon known distances and these are the kind of reviews that are absolutely perfect, WELL DONE Looney !
Right at 50'.
Be sure to read this: Cliff Notes
If you haven't. Especially look at the IPVM calculator that is mentioned.

The Target filter size really depends on your cam location and the surroundings. So, it's trial and error.

Is there a switch in the activex UI for logging events? The cam is recording and email'ing properly based on IVS intrusion, but no Event logs are created (nor for Record). Logs for System/Setting/Data/allElse are shown as expected on search.

Anyone have video recording (to sdcard) drop-outs? For example, a car is approaching down the street with good video for a few seconds, then image freezes, then starts again with car long gone. Drop-outs are intermittent, though thankfully the snapshots are occur while the video recording is frozen. Using IVS, 8mbps bitrate, 30fps, 30iframeInterval, email snapshots level 6 at 1s intervals. Micro sd card is u1 c10, a couple of years old. Possibly I got a narcoleptic cam? ;)

You would probably want to replace that SD card with a Samsung Evo Plus U3.

Just a note on the SD card for those who have Costco, I just saw they have a special on Scandisk 64Gb card 2 pack for $22 after rebate 11/16-11/26.
Too many acronyms for me to know what they all mean without Googling them but the card on the site shows:
SanDisk Ultra Plus 64 GB
Micro SD XC1, V10, C10, A1

...Just found this chart which was helpful

So far this camera is not working for me. Andy sent me 20180813 Firmware and I upgraded it and it oked for like 4 hours and it started to lose connection and connects again. I check the recording on he NVR and it shows that it lost connectivity 4 times at night. When I checked in the morning the camera is not found. I disconnect it and reconnect it and it worked and then lost connectivity a couple times then it went off without being able to reconnect anymore. I tried to disconnect it and put it on a different PoE switch with no luck. I tried to put it on a different cable without any luck. There is a green light inside the camera which was on when I did a factory reset from before. Now that light is not on at all. I tried to reset to factory for 1 minute 3 minutes and 5 minutes nothing worked. Andy thinks that camera is dead. This camera from the start didnt work. It was on a firmware from March 2018 and it was rebooting (disconnecting) every minute.

The ping shows "destination host unreachable" and a couple of time out. The camera IP is change from 192.168.1.108 to something else
Hi Bravo I am having the same issue with one of my cameras, did you ever resolve the issue?

This typically points to a cable issue. Poor crimps on the Rj45, Rj45s not wired to spec, or using CCA cable instead of Pure Copper.
Test with a short premade known good, factory made cable.

Hey all,

I've been fiddling with the settings of my HDW5231R-ZE a little bit, just for fun and noticed something. And i'm not sure if this is normal.

Firmware: 2.640.0000002.0.R, Build Date: 2018-05-23

Normally i could set the bit rate settings to a max of 10240 Kb/s, but went with the 8192 Kb/s as i always do with the camera's.

Yesterday i changed the fps to 25 and the i-frames to 50 instead of my normal 14 fps with 28 i-frames. Changed the bit rate to Customized, and now i could set it to a max of 40960 Kb/s ???

Tried to save it, and it worked. Did a check in Blue Iris, and it showed 5071 kB/s.

So i gave this a shot again on my SD22204T-GN, and there i could set it to a max of 20480 Kb/s ??? Also worked out fine. The SD49225T-HN did not play along, as its max stayed at 8192 Kb/s

Given that i would not leave the camera's at those insane bit rates, my question is, is this normal or did i just oversee this in the past?

Hello SkyLake, if you typed over the speeds as shown on your screen, then all your numbers do equal. Why? 5071kBps equals to 40568kbps. Bits versus Bytes you know.

Anyway, I can suggest to lower your iFrames to (max) your fps, so at 25fps put iFrame at 25 max. Why? Because read the Cliff Notes :)

Good Luck!

Hi guys,

I have ordered two HDW5231R-ZE with the newest firmware from Andy.
One of them has an odd problem.
Every couple of seconds the image changes (brighter/darker) and time/date disappears:
It start at 4 second mark (sorry for the quality)

Did you make the cables?
Did you use Pure Solid Copper cable, and not CCA?
Did you make them with the 568b standard?
Did you test this cam with a short cable before installing?
You might try resetting to factory defaults and start over.

It's possible the Lights that are in the view are causing the flicker?
Did you try changing the Flicker rate from 60htz to 50htz in the camera?

You have a lot of wall in the cameras FOV that's useless, try in the camera settings to set the camera to corridor mode, then adjust the lens so as to not have so much wall in the picture.

What is the recommended frequency of scheduled reboots? My IPC-HDW5231R-ZE did not switch to color during the daytime today, which a manual reboot resolved. Previously was rebooting once a week.

1 time per week is fine, and flash to the latest new firmware. For the no switch, you can check if happen again, if totally can't switch, the hardware should have some problems.
