Hi,
I'm looking for a security camera / flood light combination that can be mounted from the ceiling (on my soffit). All the ones I have seen are made to be wall mounted. Does anyone have any recommendations?

What I'm looking for:
- Soffit mounted
- Motion sensing flood light / security camera combination
- Video storage on SD card
- WIFI
- Resolution at least 1080. (but the more the better.)

This picture shows a wall mounted unit. I need soffit mounting and I don't think I can twist these into proper position when mounted on the soffit.

I think seperate high power led floods with Starlights or something (what im doing) will work a lot better than some cheapo light/cam combo.
Thank you. Any chance you could post a picture?
As far as power for this, all I have right now is an existing flood light under the soffit.

Thank you. That looks like the flood light portion. How will you install the camera? (I don't have power at any close location other than the light.)

Ahhh... That's why I wanted WIFI because I cannot run cat5e there and I have nothing to connect it to even if I did.

Then yeah your options might be severely limited. Amcrest / Reolink have wireless cams. Theres also stuff like Nest / Ring.

Maybe check out that eufy. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge on these can pitch in?

Whatever you get, AVOID WYZE!

If you;re going to use a WiFi camera how will you get power to it? With a wire of course! If you're running a wire for power, just run a CAT5 cable and use a PoE camera.

A wifi system can be shutdown and blocked from 100 yards away, is not legal but it works. WIFI is for toys, not security and surveillance.

You are an old member, but my greeting post.

Hire a low voltage electrician to run your wires, cost is between $50 and $200 per drop depending on where you live. DO NOT BUY CAMERAS FROM THEM.

My standard welcome to the forum message.

Read Study Plan before spending money
Cameras are for surveillance to get information for after the fact.

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. (read on a real computer, not a phone). The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest, Arlo cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)
15) camera placement use the calculator... IPVM Camera Calculator V3
16) POE list PoE Switch Suggestion List
17) Camera Sensor size, bigger is general better Sensor Size Chart
18) Camera lens size, a bigger number give more range but less field of view. Which Security Camera Lens Size Should I Buy?

Thank you all.

I realize WIFI cameras are crap...
WIFI is acceptable to me because: this is not my house, WIFI is available, I'm ok with occasional dropouts, there would be nothing critical being viewed. If security where a concern, I would not have specified an SD card.

I have an existing floodlight on the soffit. There is no other power available on the outside of the house, so I am looking to replace that floodlight with a floodlight/camera combination, unless I see a better option that does not require running wires...
