Personally, I have been lucky with Bi and any errors. I have only had it die on me maybe 3-4 times since 2018. But after setting it to only go to stable versions and only manual updates, I have not had the program die.

Now for the database, recently have had it stop recording overnight. I had a database error and drives showing overallocated in the status, but they were not overallocated. I reverted back to the previous stable version and not had a problem. That was the reason for me to go to manual updates. I was out on the road at the time this happened. I always check the cams in the morning and at night to make sure things are fine. One morning they were not. So I logged in remotely and reset the BI app and set it to manual updates since I noticed that it happened after an update to BI that night.

That was the only time I had an issue with the database. So I am not worried that it will fail me when needed.
It’s been pretty good lately (besides the version people are having issues with) but I remember last year there were a couple versons where I’d get Add to BI DB errors more than once on different installs.

I am not sure exactly what is going on. I went to look at some footage from earlier today, and two cameras were giving "BVH Error" in the i3 web view. I went to look at the actual BI instance and saw huge gaps of missing stuff (should be recording all the time)

The timeline in the shot below seems like it got rid of any non-motion detected footage, but when I go to view, a lot of it is missing actual video and just giving black screens. In the timeline, it shows that there should be full footage, but 4 of the cameras have just black playback. and if I scrub, the black jumps around to different frames.

I have the webview open throughout the day on a dedicated phone, and there has been no actual loss of video feed.

I was on 5.0.8 I believe earlier today, but saw there were updates, so I did them a few hours ago, up to 5.0.10 (which was when I noticed this issue), but just saw 5.0.11 came out not long ago, so I had installed that now about 10-15 minutes ago.

i lost a lot of recordings. Im furious. This is unacceptable. Im missing everything prior to 25 days ago and a bunch in between. Im not interested in being a guinea pig or being a beta tester. The stable version I was using and trusting had such an awful memory leak I couldn't keep using it. Shame on me but shame on Blue Iris for being complete dog poop

It definitely sucks, so when you find a stable version, resist the urge to update until they provide something you want or need. I am on a version before code project was added because deepstack simply works for me and they haven't added anything I want or need.

Keep in mind no two systems are the same, so for every version some will have a problem and some won't. This isn't like an NVR where the device is the same for everyone.

I learned my lesson but when my server crashed everyday with 31 gigs of memory usage I was forced to upgrade. Its like russian roulette.

Yikes. Do you recall the version you were on prior and rollback?

Nope I don't care. I just polished my frigate install and probably won't look back. Done wasting my time and resources and highly recommend those who suffer to look elsewhere.

Good. Be furious - at yourself. You literally signed up to be a beta tester when you installed this version. This is why blue iris provides latest version update and stable version update as an OPTION. You foolishly chose not to go with the stable version. That is your problem. If you are using the system in production wait even longer than the blue iris stable release. This is common sense. Its mention hundreds of times in the forum. Blue iris is not the right software if you are the type that cannot control yourself with updates.

Yes frigate doesn't have any missing video or memory leak issues LMAO. Here is a small sample courtesy of google.

Perhaps you can’t read. I was running stable and it was a giant memory leak crashing daily. Not only crashing it was so bad the server had to be rebooted. My server has 40 gigs of memory. So whatever but I upgraded because I had no other choice. Sure memory leak gone same with recordings.

I figured you would not understand - BI requires an 80 iq minimum. You could have EASILY reverted back to an EARLIER version. Its really simple bleeding edge is for beta testers. There are thousands of blue iris users here. Memory leaks affect only a few. I run over 20 BI systems guess what - no memory leaks. By golly here is one that has not been restarted since it was put into service over 2 months ago.
Want to know the secret? Simple, clean windows install and I dont update the software every time I go take a shit.

Don't know if it would help here, but my BI is set to rebuild the database every night. As a result of doing it so often, a rebuild only takes seconds and up to now, I've not experienced a single database issue. That said, I'm not on your build either so far as I am aware (currently on my home pc and don't hjave network access to my BI PC due to someone who was supposed to be pulling me network cable to a new BI PC location letting me down.

You guys, I just lost 4 months of video. This is a commercial establishment. Boy does this suck, if my employees find out, some of them are going to be very happy. I have over 145 TB and wasn't even close to filling up my drives. I was on 5.8.7.3 and updated to 5.7.9.12 as it seems this is working out for toastertoaster.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the program code when you accidentally wipe out all of the recordings. And for the bug to have survived many later revisions? There is no excuse. I'm a programmer and I don't see how you can NOT avoid this kind of mistake. It's very easy to get the file count and total size and then test for wholesale deletions vs typical FIFO deletions. Truly, tell me how the storage recycling is supposed work and I will write you example showing how easy it is to avoid. This is unacceptable.

For the record, this forum is not affiliated with Blue Iris Software or the developer of Blue Iris Software.

But since you apparently know how to prevent your issue in the future may I suggest you share your issue AND your offer with Blue Iris support at support@blueirissoftware.com

He’s right about it being unacceptable and avoidable and your response isnt needed. We all know this is not affiliated with the company although I think I bought my license from here. Anyway frigate is working good for me. It’s not long before I abandon blue virus for it.

We get lots of people that come here thinking this site is affiliated with Blue Iris.

For Tony to respond to someone that just joined today and that is his first post, Tony's reply is totally appropriate, especially since the poster used the word "you" several times in his response, which likely means he thinks the BI developer reads this forum.
