I ordered 3 cams at the alibaba store , seller his name is Eddy in my case.
3 Different models with the same specs but different models and all poe.
The aliexpress sells them much more expensive , only thing is that it's easier when nothing arrives with getting a refund because Paypal does not seem very helpful in a few times i encountered some problems with a transaction.
We will see what happens.

Yes, Eddy @ Alibaba Longse was my source for this cam. Paid $90 + shipping via PayPal

I'm really interested in these longse S500 IPcams and I follow the thread pretty long know. But I've got some questions about the cam, may you guys be so kind and try to answere them?
- Is it possible to record in 2592x1944 h.265 to a NAS, and grab a stream at 1920x1080 (or whatever resolution it is with 4:3 ratio) as well?
- How stable is the software / camera? Any unexpected freezes or restarts so far?
- Do you guys know the angle, that the camera is recording? Is there somewhere an overview for the different lens types? Does it make a difference, if the camera is 4:3 or 16:9?

First I thought Hikivision is a good choice, but since these (cheap china) cameras are hacked and pretty hard to update and the retail ones are overprized in Germany, I think I go pretty good with the S500 right?

You can record h.265 to NVR or NAS if it supports it, but you can't grab 1080p stream if you have it set at 5MP. You can only do 480p stream out of secondary stream.

Cam has been very stable, no freezes or weirdness once I configured it to my preference.

You can see sample screenshots comparing 2.8mm 4MP Hikvision vs 3.6mm 5MP Longse, it's slightly narrower. I don't particularity like the 4:3 format, really wish they would add 16:9 in the future cams with this sensor.

I wouldn't run and buy 10 of these just yet, if I were I would start with one to try out and see if you like it.

Reached out to Longse to see if they would offer Varifocal option with IMX178, that would be a sweet combo.

I have just ordered the Dome version.

Have also noticed that all cameras now only mention lens being 3.6mm, except the dome and one wall attach bullet are offering 3.6mm/5mm lens. I am sure when asked they will do the 5mm lens as @klasipca has mentioned before.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Best-5MP-In-Outdoor-IP-Dome-Camera-30pcs-IR-Led-night-vision-SONY-IMX178-HI3516A-Full/32579650000.html?

Other manufacturers seem to be doing that with the same chip.

Id also like to see some bullets with lenses in the 16 - 25mm range.
I have seen this one, but it's a)using firmware which I don't really like b)a dome c)small inferior IRs. Btw, Amanda (instead of Eddy) from Longse got back to me and said they are planning to have VF soon.

http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/cgimA6Lm[/QUOTE] Thanks. This is the one I was looking at, but the price is $163 which is why I asked the question. Is the $90 price tag no longer available?

It really all comes down to having large sensor in a camera such as IMX178 which btw is sold retail for around $100. The need to make it standard 16:9 format, add varifocal to sweeten the deal
