Blue Iris Annual Fee?

So anyone else break down and buy the $30 support today due to the latest download wouldent download otherwise? like i did...
 
This all is not that big of deal. In the past Ken has released new versions of BI every 2 or 3 years. So when BI5 comes out , buy it and you will be good for the next year. During that period save the updates and stick with the most stable update until the next new version is released. At most you will only have to wait another year anyway. Besides, don't you think people will post updates anyway somewhere ??
It still is the best deal out there !
 
I agree that support should be charged after an initial period, but strongly disagree with charging for minor 4.x releases. That would be like Microsoft charging for Windows updates, or any other major software company charging for bug fixes.
 
The new fees are low, but it is a dramatic change in policy no mater what is said (Fenderman spin). It is easy to predict this will not be the last change.

Why is it easy to predict anything? You are simply speculating with ZERO basis in fact - which is your MO. Why do you suspect there will be other fees? You have no idea what you are taking about and as usual are simply spewing garbage. Go buy that hikvision NVR if you are so concerned. My prediction, martyo never buys a standalone nvr, blue iris is just THAT good.

I'm going to put it really simple Marty, It takes a very dedicated software engineer to do software like this on his own. After awhile if it grows, he has to pay people to help. Then he has to pay people that can understand it to support it... All in the while, raise a family, and have a life. More people use it, more support, more people to answer calls/emails. I don't need support, I just signed up for $60.00 a year to support the project... Hopefully more will to, BTW it is voluntary, you will still get the same versions I have... Sponged...

Basically what I'm saying Marty is, you are a moron, no, actually a boron(boring moron)... NOOB. Go away. Chinese manufactured/child labor/virus-ed up firmware/one-year-see-later/buy-another NVR is what you need... :)

No reason to get your blood pressure up, its not worth it. I hope people take note on how fenderman, who is an administrator, thanks you for the post above, not very administratorish. Many times Fenderman bragged that BI only costs 60 bucks and updates were free. Its a big change. No reason to get offensive, but if you both feel better about it, then go for it.

He was thanked because he is right on point. This forum was started because we wanted to be non "administratorish". You "predicted" that it wont be the last change. You implied that in the near future there will be more fees, otherwise whats the point of that statement, its inevitable that at some point on the future prices will go up (its called inflation). You made those statements as you do most of your statements with ZERO facts to back them up. You simply have no idea what you are talking about and like to make foolish statements. So, get the NVR already. Lucky for you I am not very "administratorish", otherwise you would have been booted off this forum long ago, we dont do that here.
We get DEFENSIVE, not offensive, because the software is AWESOME and he does a great job keeping the price low, we dont need novice cheap fools bitching about a 30 dollar fee and how terrible it is and make baseless claims about changes coming that are simply libelous. You dont like the software, take your NUC and VGA foscams, and move to something else, we all know that you wont, because its freaking AWESOME. Blue iris does only cost 60 dollars and updates are FREE for at least a year, to date he is still providing updates even if you had the product for more than a year. You are welcome to pay 50-100 PER camera and use exacq, oh wait they only provide 90 days of updates for the 50 per camera version and only 1 year of updates for the 100 PER camera version, furthermore they will not provide complete new revisions to you for free unless you pay for their expensive support plans (also per camera). So you can rag on blue iris all you want, you are still using it because you cannot find anything better at this price point or even close to it.

@fenderman: I thanked you for that fine post because I believe you're right on about BI, M, and this board. (That said, I still have 5 internal/PTZ/VGA/sound Foscams in use outside under eaves or other protection because the darn things just won't quit working even after years of Michigan winters :p Certainly, as they die I'll replaces them with something better ;) ).

I dont care about blue iris marketing and sales. I dont benefit from it in any way. I care about getting correct information to folks so they can get the best sytem for their needs. Something you dont quite understand. So move along and buy the nvr already. Otherwise we will assume that you too agree that blue iris is AWESOME and there is no alternative in this price range.
 
Fendrman, it obvious your experienced and very good at tech support. Your salesmanship is lacking, though you do double talk on nontechnical things, but its poorly done.

Fenderman does not work for Blueiris, so what does "salesmanship" have to do with it... I was a looking at competitors software that costs 10x as much with no support unless you paid $1,200 up front and $100.00 a year there after... I found BI, it's better then the competing software, for home use... Much more expensive then a "Chinese NVR". Much more extensible, with updates and motion detection actually works...

I like it, It does what I need, better then my original choice. I do think the BlueIris website needs a redesign de-emphasizing the "video capture" and "webcam" part. It has moved into a more professional aspect...

And some people consider me an expert... Don't really know how that came about.

There is no misleading sales pitch stop lying. Ultimately you will end up paying for support because your WILL want the new features in the updates.

Man - How long is this going to go on. Personally I don't have a dog in this fight but seriously?!?! Its one thing to complain, its another to B*, Cry, and be a two year old throwing a tantrum which is what the majority of people did here. Heaven forbid a SINGLE engineer produce a quality product and get compensated for it - all you people also prob expect the government to support you... I'm so tired of seeing this OP in my News Feed. @fenderman believes in the product, he didn't give a "Sales Pitch", he pointed out the obvious to those CRYING - and he's stated many times - SHOW ME SOMETHING ELSE OF EQUAL VALUE... Crickets.... So many people just want to cry.... Below is a video @lviperz posted and it fits for several users...
