You can get any tattoo you want. XP was as good as dead if there are no security updates. SAME THING. STOP BEING CHEAP and cloaking as "my clients are skeptical" I call a huge BS. Ken would be lucky to get rid of cheapass end users who want to mooch for life.
 
I'll use a new analogy since you're not getting it. Did the A/C in your car stop working because a new 2016 model hit the lot?

Very poor analogy. You keep missing the point. The mobile app requires distinct programming for v3 vs v4 with respect to the alerts. The developer is not required to provide that support for life. If he purposely wanted to kill mobile app support for V3 he could have easily disabled the entire app. The automobile manufacture is not required to do any extra work to keep your ac going. Understand now? Many software packages end similar support after several years, for example, quicken and quickbooks end support for online banking after 3 years...there are MANY other examples.
Every function of the app including video review works just fine except viewing video from the alert page. STOP being cheap and own up to your mistake.

I wouldn't expect them to. I'd expect my A/C to just keep on running until it breaks on its own. Imagine that.

Not requiring support for life. Requiring the original product to keep on working the way it did without interference from other products being developed. Hard to imagine, I'm sure.

I don't care about distinct programming between v3 and v4. It shouldn't interfere with a product purchased and sitting idle without updates. Updating the mobile app and then editing the description to say "Only works for V4" when you bought it for v3 seems like a mistake I shouldn't have to own up to. Unless you're on this forum. Then I should send Ken flowers for every decision he makes--else be labeled a moocher every step of the way.

Asking for no updates is suddenly mooching.

You completely missed the point again. The fact that you dont care that it takes extra work is irrelevant. Many other software packages do the same (intuit for example with online banking) Admit you made a mistake. Its too freaking bad. You dont have to send flowers but stop being a cheap ass moocher complainer. For your furture installs why dont you go buy another software package and let use know how it works out for you. Without BI we would all be paying insane prices for the competition. I know, I know, you dont care. Well I do. All I see is a cheap mooch looking for a handout. Stop it already or move on to a new package that works better for you. Nothing was promised to you, you made false assumptions. TOO FREAKING BAD.

Did you read the licenses? Or just click through... v3 work perfectly, or so they say, on hardware that existed when v3 cam out, still does Marty0. @fenderman, don't feed the trolls...

You buy Blue Iris you get a years worth of updates. $30.00 per year after that. That is really cheap for most software. Try Adobe Photoshop, or Primer, or Office, or Apple products... What are you talking about Willace...

lol...he simply expects the developer to do extra work for him for life..or hold back development on BI 4 so that they remain compatible.
Regardless, its extreme cheapness cloaked with a silly excuse and these users need to be called out on it. I dont believe a single customer balked at paying $30 . They probably balked at his 300 dollar service charge to install it. That might be the root of the problem. Maybe his pissed that the customer can now get teamviewer support for $60 annually and not need his over priced services. There is no need for a $145 an hour tech to work on a blue iris machine. It does not require that level of expertise.
The update can be applied remotely in minuets by anyone with a basic understanding of blue iris.
 
I guess the author should have made a new separate mobile app for v4, which you would have to buy as well. I don't see any other way which would make gmaster1 happy. :)

My first post expressed interest in not wanting to sit here and go all "you didn't finish your dinner? There are starving kids in Africa!" I shouldn't have to. Yeah -- the prices aren't out of line. Me personally I have 4 estates -- each with their own BI instance running so I suppose that's $120/yr -- Okay that's like a week of Starbucks purchases. Wasn't debating that and in fact stated multiple times frugality was not the issue.

I'm expressing interest in the few installs I have on 3.6 which don't need to be updated for any reason whatsoever and the huge list of clients I have who are on the same boat -- It's not about frugality but an ethos thing as many others have mentioned. And raising that concern makes me a moocher. Got it.

Where are you getting 120 per year? its a one time 30 dollar charge to update to V4? If you are going to complain at least get your facts straight.

I do. If I install something on a non-managed client (a printer, for example) I would be an ass to suggest otherwise. This is a simple piece of software. You mentioned earlier a simple DVR/NVR from China that has no updates. Why does BI need to be an exception? Just because ken keeps feeling the need to update the software every day does not mean I necessarily want it. I bought the license to use it, and that's it. Works it works. Why should... *sigh* whatever.

You dont have to pay the annual fee for the function you are complaining about. If you provide free lifetime support to a client without charging for it that is simply foolish. Every software package has an end of life. Mobile apps DO NOT support legacy software forever. Again, you made an incorrect assumption so you need to eat your mistake. If you in fact charged and 145 an hour to install blue iris then the 30 dollar fee should be of little consequence.
You mention the updates like they are a bad thing. How dare the developer add new features and make the software better!! THE NERVE!
Move to another software package, they will gladly take your 100 dollar PER camera license then charge you for updates and new versions (per camera). Its clear that you are an ungrateful moocher.
