That’s just the IR reflecting off and therefore highlighting the more reflective bits.

The only way to get around that would to add extra lighting and try and run the cams in colour mode but you’d need to experiment.

The aim is to get a decent image of any intruders so if when you test by walking around at night you manage to get a decent enough vid to the point that you can make out details of a person I personally wouldn’t worry too much about the white bits.

thank u so much u think they look fine than?

Hi,

as @IAmATeaf noted down: camera's aim is not an art show. Main objectives are: detection of something odd and (hopefully) identify who is doing it.

Most camera's (due to bad lightning, lots of noise, dirt on the camera) do not work well at night. And to make things worse: I could give my camera settings to you, and it will not be as good as in my environment as it differs of yours. Plus you have to make (some) choices: do you want good "still" pictures or good "motion" pictures. During the day, you might achieve both, but at night you have to "choose" a path.

To know which path you are on now: put a hoodie on, and walk past your camera's. Not in slow motion (a burglar will be sneaky and fast). And have a look whether (or not) you could identify a logo on your sweater. If you can't. you have to mess with shutter speed (higher = less motion blur but darker image) - which might indeed imply you have to add (some) IR lightning.

So my advice: walk around, change settings, walk around, change settings again, etc etc. Sometimes your moss/weed might come out better or worse, but it's the thief/burglar you want, not the veggies

Good luck and happy camming!
CC

Your cameras are dome that will reflect light. If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)

Your cameras are mounted too high. (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.

That camera has a small sensor and has a poor lux rating.
Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
Camera Sensor size, bigger is general better Sensor Size Chart

My standard welcome to the forum message.

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. (read on a real computer, not a phone). The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Read How to Secure Your Network (Don't Get Hacked!) in the wiki also.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest, Arlo cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)
15) camera placement use the calculator... IPVM Camera Calculator V3
16) POE list PoE Switch Suggestion List
17) Camera Sensor size, bigger is general better Sensor Size Chart

Don't take this as bad criticism or anything. We're (I am, I'm sure there's at least one other here who would agree with me) trying to look out for you. Something to you'll want to understand is what you're going to get and how much action might be taken from it.

Your camera placement is way high. If you think about it, your cameras from that height are not going to give you a clear face shot. Best you're going to get is a picture of a humanoid and that's about it. Without any sort of id, you'll see your stuff getting broken in to by a human and the police won't have much to go off of. Even if they're in a red Toyota Camry (assuming you can even get clear enough to identify that), the police can't put out a search for just any late model Camry. Read around on the forum a lot and you'll see lots of recommendations on camera placement and what you can expect with identifying something. In brief, a common recommendation is to stay under 8ft or so. Some people even say 6ft. Much of this hobby all depends on how much you want to spend and how visible you're willing for the camera to be. Understand that this will most likely get you a picture of the crime being committed and not much more. Without detail, the police won't have much to go on. Actually there's a couple of convos on here discussing how much the police might be willing to do no matter what you give them but that's another topic altogether. People often come here looking for a way to "prevent" crime and are sorely disappointed. These cameras are not a substitute for properly locking and storing things to begin with.

Good luck. Its a fun hobby. I just want you to not go in with grandiose ideas of what to expect and be disappointed.
