Dahua 4MP 25mm LPR Modification

I seen on another post that the IPC-HFW5431E-Z5 is delayed until the 14th. I'm patiently waiting for a review. Hopefully @nayr doesn't have too much going on at home & work when this arrives. If it turns out good I'll definitely be in for 1.
Lol, already get 5pcs, but Nayr will be the first guy to test this. All will be done soon. Hope all well.

Maybe a stupid question... but what would theoretically be best for a dedicated LPR camera, 2mp(HFW5231E-Z5) or 4mp(HFW5431E-Z5)?

I think the 4MP camera; the starlights are too sensitive to use in a high light environment like this

those are a bit more expensive ultra models; I think most people here will be interested in the Eco Starlights over the Ultra's given the cost premium of the Ultras

what do you think about the -Z12 larger zoom popularity for LPR or just general use, as i seem to want 12mm to maybe 20mm in over half of my layouts? Cost premium? I am anxious to hear the review of the 4MP IPC-HFW5431E-Z5 for LPR. I just noticed the Z12 only comes in the 2MP.

The Z5 should have you covered on optics, I havent done alot of testing w/the Starlights on LPR but the lil bit I did required the shutter speeds so high and the gan levels so low I think your going to have problem w/variation.. if you get it tuned so a nice good new clean plate from being overexposed, I think you'll be running setting that will make getting older and dirty plates pretty much under exposed and unreadable..

I'll do more testing when I get some Z5's in both Starlight and 4MP

Interestingly Dahua's dedicated LPR cameras seem to be mostly Starlights, with the latest ITC237-PU1A-IRHL looking like it has the same sensor as the Ultra Starlights if the specs are correct.

I wonder, shouldn't low gain levels be beneficial for handling variations? From photography, if I push the ISO too high the dynamic range is reduced. In similar ways I would have expected low gain settings to be beneficial for handling large variations between dark and bright.

Should be gettin a Z5 ultra starlight this week with 35mm zoom, gonna try a bunch of stuff with it but I will definitely test it with LPR, kinda pricey camera to use only for LPR but it is what it is haha. I'll be interested to see how it does.

I grabbed a non-ultra IPC-HFW5231E-Z5 to play with while waiting for the 4MP. Then if the 4MP turns out to be the better choice for LPR, I have a few other potential spots where a Z5 Starlight would still be beneficial.

So will the ITC237-PU1A-IRHL ANPR camera do the LPR capture and database storage for you then without having to figure all that out separately post process or am I misunderstanding?
It says "embedded white list database..." and "Embedded with lpr engine in the camera".
