I also had issues with this specific cam with NAND flash firmware in the past and won't say it's especially for Chinese domestic cameras. I also have other Chinese models (look into my signature) which are working properly. Seems only to be the -ZS cam.
For me it isn't a real big deal that IVS is not configurable for this specific cam from the NVR WebUI. Since the 2017-04 firmware it is possible to get the cams WebUI through the NVR WebUI. So i could configure IVS there if needed.
How do you access the cam webUI through the NVR webUI? I've wishing I could do this the whole time!

It's possible since Firmware starting from 2017-04-18. There is a link for cams which are registered in the NVR. The search function doesn't work for me right now... just try the search yourself, i did a post for this...

Maybe not blocked, but just the cameras firmware can't updated, so can't work well with the new firmware of the NVR. This is a important thing to be careful, as i know some guys even sell Chinese NVRs, much cheaper, but i always don't recommend those cheap ones, Original english also have cheap ones too. No need to buy the cheap and can't be updated devices.
I updated to this firmware without a factory reset and it retained all of my settings. I did need to clear my browser cache before getting back into the WebUI for it to look right though. All seems to work well and I was able to subscribe to IVS push notifications in iDMSS Plus finally. I am not getting any IVS notifications - but at least the push notification setup is not erroring anymore.
How about the latest firmware that's coming with the 5231R-Z now: 2.460.0000.14.R Build Date: 2017-07-20.

When looking at different products, what do the prefixes in the files mean (General_ & DH_)? Also in the middle of the file name is either Eng or EngSpnFrn. What do these connotations mean?

DH is with Dahua logo in WebUI.
General is for OEM manufacturers.
Your decision if u wanna Dahua logo or not

Do we know who put this up and have reason to believe it is official vs what we get from Andy?
Going through my NVR with the new firmware - I have never figured out what the IVS/Global tab was for, but on this firmware I notice I cannot select a Channel at the top to define a global area anymore. This area seems like it might be broken unless it is a browser issue for me.

The global IVS tab was for calibration, they have done away with that on the new NVR and camera firmware.
