Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

find their little bi laws or whatever and see if there are any loopholes or what is acceptable and then how you can use that to your advantage. :D

yea i already read them. they are so generic, and can be interpreted in many ways.

while exterior security cams are not explicitly banned, the troublesome areas of the bylaws that COULD be used against you if a neighbor want's to be a d*ck are these:

1 - some generic wording 'no building wall fence deck or other structure blah blah nor shall any exterior addition or change (including paintign) or altercation blah blah until plans and specifications have been submitted and approved in writing as to harmony of external design and location in relation to surrounding structures"
2- "owners shall not cause or permit anything to be hung or displayed on the outside of windows or placed on the outside walls or doors of a building and no awning or canopy...blah blah...without prior written consent of board of directors"
3 - "no nuisances shall be allowed upon the property nor shall any user or practice be allowed which is a source of annoyance to other members"

now if i go hanging large PTZs on the corners of my house, they would for sure stand out and not "fit" with the community.

there are other words that say 'all attempts must be made such that no plumbing vents, exhaust vents, air intakes are visible on front elevation'. now it is common for builders to run out of channels to run some things, and some things sort of need to end up going on the front bc they were the last to be installed, such as dryer vents, but looking at my house and otehrs these are all paint matched to the siding so they all blend in and are actually quite hard to notice unless someone points them out. my idea was to blend in the varifocal turrets this way paint matching them on mount boards. the 25x ptz is quite a beast to hide though.

LOL godamn man, come live in our community, pay a ton of money for the house and the privilege, and then let us use some vague language to basically say even though you live here and you "own" your house, you don't really own shit and will make it look the way WE want and only do what WE want you to and we get to basically just decide on the spot because we wrote the rules that way on purpose, I'm surprised they don't have big yellow stars on certain front door, Sieg Heil !!! I feel for ya dude, on one hand I'm jelly cuz you prolly have a sweet fancy house that you own, but then 3/4 of the reason I'd want to own a house you don't get to have because they won't let you do whatever you want to it, that would be MOST of the reason I'd want to own a house. :(

I am wondering if this will fix the issue that @TVT73 has been collecting feedback from users for where the focus during the day is different to night resulting in an out of focus image.
Yes, this should it be. But I can't test it this weekend.
It should push an auto focus event when IR view is activated.
I wonder how fast it has been now released (just a few days). I talked with @Korgoth who was able too push dahua to work for it. I couldn't thank enough him:headbang:he did it!

i want one of these so bad but I have neighbors who would complain to my HOA about it not fitting "architectural guidelines of the community". I think I can conceal the varifocal turrets good enough with paint matching my siding to the point where it looks like paint matched dryer outlet, but i can't come up with any good ideas on how to conceal the 25x starlight PTZ. maybe gutting a large coach light fixture and mounting it inside..? lol

Submit an HOA application for the camera with the model number. Most will assume it's a standard camera. Once they've approved it, you're golden!

Any recommendations where to mount this cam and not have the light interfere. My door is on the right hand side. I also have the PFB203W mount.

All you can do is try it... I have a walk way on the side of my house, and a public park directly behind it. The PTZ is by no means discrete. I painted it to match the color of the house, and so far no complaints. And if they do, then I'll ask for them to send a letter guaranteeing the safety of my house and back yard.... I'll be getting involved with the committee I think and will run for Pres.... then I'm sure it will be crickets.

I would try directly under the light by the PIR sensor... No one can really give you a definitive answer. You have to survey yourself, and put the camera in various spots to see what truly works.

I did some reading online about it and found similar info, that if you've expressed legit safety's concerns and ask if they are going to guarantee safety and they still deny you the right to protect your property, then if you get hit they could be liable and most HOAs do not want to be on the hook for this.

It seems like a real roll of the dice on how much HOA's will fight you, and if the neighbors complain or not.... before I bought the house I called the property management company and asked if it was gonna be a problem having a bucket truck in my driveway...

They said no problem, I buy the house, and bam a letter about the truck. . Talked to the management and they said don't worry about it.... they aren't ALL bad. All depends on what ur going for in a home.

I thought my wiring jobs were bad...but suddenly there's a new contender! That's a tricky spot. Hope you're not counting on motion detection recording or the bugs will keep you hopping. Maybe try the opposite side a bit away from the door and angle it down enough to keep the lights out of the shot at least. In the past where I worked before we moved, I actually went so far as to change that type of light fixture out for something less glaring. Those bulbs actually white out faces and then recording that on camera becomes a moot point. It's the exterior light intensity that can kill a shot too. Good luck.

LoL that's my old camera system. New wiring won't be all over the place. Haha. Yeah those bulbs are bright as hell. When they kick on night vision turns off but the switch is annoying. I'm tempted to just not have the light at all but it's already done it's deed in scaring off a car thief. He took off running when it lit up my yard.

You need to wrap the connectors in silicon tape/coax seal, otherwise water penetration will kill the camera..

After rechecking my front yard focus during the day, can confirm it didn't alter. Such a simple solution which bumps the night time quality just that little bit higher. Thanks to both yourself @TVT73 for noticing the issue, collecting feedback from people and to @Korgoth for getting Dahua to rectify the problem in a timely manner.

Going to go though my remaining cameras and upgrade. If only the PTZ could have a similar firmware applied to also rectify the focus issue.

did not know they were not focusing, I need to recheck and see if I need the increased sharpness I was doing.

Yeah. I found your tests to be quite interesting, should have left a message and suggest you upgrade the firmware but I wanted to test myself and actually verify that it did indeed fix the problem.

I just tested and the image looks better with sharpness at default 50 than at 60, so I am setting it back to defaults. Incredible that firmware can make picture quality differences.
