Hikvison Permanent Region Code Hack

Reason may be, that you have originaly Chineese cam with modified firmware.
It was and still is a chinese cam, however i have since flashed it with unmodified 5.2.0 and 5.2.3 from the web interface following the mtd5/mtd6 mod to change it to an english region camera. That said, im now on 5.2.5. after flashing via the tftp method, perhaps i will now be able to flash to 5.2.8 via the web interface once the firmware is available.

What do you think about backup MTD from one "good" camera, and put into "bad"?

Have a care.
That flash segment holds info very specific to the camera it was written to during the manufacturing process, including the serial number, date of manufacture, location of manufacture, hardware type code, model ID, MAC address, OEM code, etc etc.

I've done that in an emergency when I accidently overwrote the MTD file and didn't realize it until I erased flash. So I took the MTD files from another camera. What happens is the network would not allow two cameras with the same MAC address, so I can only boot up one at a time, but it did work.

i wonder how easy it is to alter the mac in the mtd aswell? How you getting on with the 5.2.8 cameras networkcameracritic?

Does anyone have a block memory diagram of these cameras, what other memory apart of the all of the MTD areas do they contain that survives a reboot?

Just FYI, I had two 2432 cameras with different MTD6 files where I couldn't edit anything in one of them.

My 2332 camera has a CH in its serial number so it is most likely Chinese yet the day is in English. I upgraded it from 5.1.6 (sticker on the box was 5.1.6_140412) to 5.2.0 from HikV Europe via the camera's web interface and everything remained in English even the day of the week, do you think I can upgrade it to 5.2.5? Or will it cause it to change to Chinese?

Thanks for your help now to compare files :

I have 5 x DS-2CD2532F-IWS cameras from China via AliExpress. They came with 5.1.2 and I upgraded them to 5.2.0 a while back and then did the day of the week fix. I have now followed the instructions for the Permanent Region Code Hack and everything went well. I then loaded 5.2.5 on the camera and it worked perfectly. Still in English, including the day of the week. Not sure how this happened, but I'm good with it.

I bought a Chinese DS-2CD-2332 with 5.1.6 with the day of the week in English. Upgraded to 5.2.0, day of week still in English. Upgraded to 5.2.5 and day of week is in Chinese. So what (and where) is the day of the week fix explained? Thanks!

Its on the first page of this thread. If you are able to perform the process detailed there, your camera is in an english region and everything should default to english. beware the warnings though, and if you are not comfortable making changes, i wouldn't recommend it as it could brick your camera.

Where did you all get 5.2.5 from? Can you link it or show it? Cheers

Don't know then. I just hacked all my 6 cams with this and upgraded using the same 5.2.5 file from 5.2.0. Everything went smoothly.

In 2 cams I did not edit mtd5, both had all the same values FF and no 02 flags.

I think ive said this before, but do you know how many dead ends you reach on the forum due to people discussing or asking for a file, yet none being actually mentioned or linked too. Anyway did a bit of google searching and found auto - update tool - Tools - Download - Support - Hikvision for the auto-update tftp tool and instructions. Using the tool I found at that link, i successfully updated to 5.2.5. Very strange it wouldn't do it from the web console though. any ideas would be welcomed as i wouldnt want it causing issues going forwards.

Works for me! I've downgraded from 5.2.5 to 5.2.0 then did the steps on the first page. I've upgraded to 5.2.3 via admin console, and it is permanent english (that firmware was always forcing chinese language for my cams)! I hope it will work with 5.2.5 just have to make sure you downgrade first to avoid bricking the cam!
