I had been researching a security system for my home, either I would house it on my server or buy a complete system and then buy cameras. Was looking at sites like a CCTV one and other home security when I came across IPCAMTALK from Slick-deals and Matt. I read the forums on their site which ultimatly brought me here, which in my mind was a great direction to go in.

I have been reading the forums here as a lurker and learning what I could and I taking the advice on Southern Yankee's standard welcome message (Thanks!). I plan on testing a single camera, connected to my POE to make sure it is what I like and works how I expect and then will purchase the other camera's and cables when ready to fully implement.

I do have a question I guess geared towards @SouthernYankee , @EMPIRETECANDY and @Wildcat_1 : The camera that I was going to look at was the OEM IPC-B5442E-ZE 4MP AI Varifocal Bullet Camera With Starlight+ that is linked in the welcome messages and @Wildcat_1 review, but it no longer available on AliExpress. I went through the pages of the thread and used Google to search the site and found a comparison for a new model - IPC-B5442E-Z4E? After reading the posts I would figure this might be the one to try as I am looking to get deatail about the face of anyone coming on site as I am in a rural area.

Drop Andy ( @EMPIRETECANDY ) a line and inquire about that model and availability. Note, he typically does give members a slight discount so let him know you're a member. Note if you go through paypal he may be able to save you a little more. Also check his Amazon store - though I am not certain if Amazon has started to ship non-essential items in a reasonable amount of time yet.

My standard welcome to the forum message.

Please read the IP Cam Talk Cliff Notes and other items in the IP Cam Talk Wiki. (read on a real computer, not a phone). The wiki is in the blue bar at the top of the page.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest, Arlo cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)

if you are interested in International Dahua cameras, a forum member sells dahua (and some Hikvision) and ships world wide. You can read some of the members recommendations on his service. He also provides cameras to other forum member for evaluation and reviews.
You can email him for a quote, or purchase from his Aliexpress store or his Amazon store. The cameras are fully upgradable, he posts upgrade software when available.

I have reached out to Andy on his profile page and will follow up with the email you provided as a backup. I appreciate the welcome message and the resources you provided. I was probably confused when I looked at the Amazon store and somehow got the actual camera name mixed up with the seller (I thought the seller was Loryta and not Andy). I figured since AliExpress did not have it then it was not the same camera on Amazon. Lessons learned to read the pages a second time .

Just a little update. I received the Camera but have not tested it yet. I am waiting on my POE switch that was back ordered. I may just cancel it and order a different one. Once I get it, I plan to test and post the pics on IPCAMTALK. If everything goes to plan, I should be looking for at a minimum of 3 more camera's and the software purchase.
