not easy to take controller out of the mix but im 95% sure the issue isnt network related.

Everything on my network goes to one switch, its a 52 port PoE switch, that has honestly been fantastic, same with the controller.

I've only added seven cameras to new install. When the cameras are set to record only triggered events, task manager reports 15% CPU usage. when you move the cameras to continuous its 67%

but, either continous or triggered - the clips are all being recorded to internal HD. so I could see it being a network issue if both continuous and triggered were similar (since the cameras are running through the network) but once the feed is in blue iris, its a blue iris/computer issue to store those clips locally right?
 
Substreams are not being used - values would show up sub FPS and Sub bitrate on that table.

In BI, go to the camera setting for each camera and go to the substream channel and select the window popup and select the substream.

That should get you down to single digits.

It shouldn't jump that much when switched to continuous - that is leaning towards an issue with the drive it is being stored to and not able to keep up.
 
ok so i looked everywhere for the substream channel. I think i found where you are talking about, but when i change it from none to default, it didnt put a bit rate in the sub stream. but i looked around, and if i fill in the field next to the drop down with this text, it seems to work. is that the right way to do it?

I have 7 cameras set to continuous record and task manager reporting 5% cpu so pretty sure its fixed?

Yes that is correct and low single digits is what I would expect.

For some reason sometimes we have to type in the /cam/realmonitor.... stuff if BI didn't find it when the camera was added.

How did you add the cameras into BI?

The recommended way is:

Add Camera
Type in IP address
Type in username
Type in password
Hit Find/Inspect and let BI do its thing.

ok so i got all the 15 cameras added and recording continuous and its running under 10%. thank you 100 times over.

I'm glad I did a fresh install of windows, good piece of mind and it seems to have solved the issues I was having with the app not showing some cameras.

i've been A) clicking add camera, B) find/inspect and search for camera, select it, then C) username/password

It did find the string of text on 3 of the 15 cameras and it is alot different than what i wrote in on the others. Should I change them all to be what it found automaticlly on the three it found? Or leave as is.

I really appreciate all your help.

If the string of text works in the profile, I would just keep it as is. At this point don't fix what isn't broke!

so when i sat down at the computer this AM, i opened the webview of BlueIris at my desk. It was open for a few minutes then crashed. I went to the desktop with blueiris on it, and blue iris wasnt open. Weird, but ok. I opened blue iris and it opens, cameras display, but after about 30 seconds it just crashes. no errors nothing just closes.
 
Now that is weird.

Are you running as a service so it auto-restarts in a crash.

Now time to turn it off and unhook and hook up everything inside - the drives, the RAM, etc. I am wondering if something is loose. I had that happen once. As soon as I opened the case I saw a RAM chip partially unseated
 
i looked around and seems it happens to people sometimes with encoding set to h265 and graphics acceleration on. I thought i read this was fixed in recent versions of BI, but my substream encoding is set to h265 and my graphics accelration is on, and since the sub streams just got turned on, maybe i should start there and change the sub encoding to h264 or turn the acceleration off?

im going to turn off the accelration and see if that changes things
 
Yeah best bet is H264 for both main and sub and hardware acceleration OFF

Around the time AI was introduced in BI, many here had their system become unstable with hardware acceleration on (even if not using DeepStack or CodeProject). Some have also been fine. I started to see that error when I was using hardware acceleration several updates into when AI was added.

This hits everyone at a different point. Some had their system go wonky immediately, some it was after a specific update, and some still don't have a problem, but the trend is showing running hardware acceleration will result in a problem at some point.

However, with substreams being introduced, the CPU% needed to offload video to a GPU (internal or external) is more than the CPU% savings seen by offloading to a GPU. Especially after about 12 cameras, the CPU goes up by using hardware acceleration.

My CPU % went down by not using hardware acceleration. Here is a recent thread where someone turned off hardware acceleration based on my post and their CPU dropped 10-15% and BI became stable. A GPU is only needed if you plan to do a lot of CodeProject, which would be insane as most find the AI in the cameras to be more than enough.

But if you use HA, use plain intel and not the variants.

so i changed the encoding to 264 on all substreams, and matched the frame rate to main stream (15)

still crashing.

I did notice though, right before it crashes....the clips window goes from saying "....waiting"

to

"...loading 95%
21"

so it must be something with either the hard drive or how I have the storage configured right? cant be the hard drive since thats what the OS installed on so must be some setting i have for the storage. problem is, i have about 4 seconds to get into the storage setting and change anything before BI crashes.
 
well on the 400th time of me opening BI and it crashing, it loaded the clips and didnt crash. so not sure whats happening but its open for now.
 
Yeah that is leaning towards the drive not being able to keep up and crashing, or we have seen incidents here where it is the ethernet port driver - so if you are using the driver for that make/model card, then try the generic, or vice versa.

Did you change any of the names of the ALERTS, NEW, STORED in BI?

You could try putting NEW on the HDD and see if that fixes it?
 
The new/alert/database is all set to go to the internal ssd in the machine. same drive the OS is on. The stored clips are set to go to the NAS.

If the issue doesnt resolve I will switch the new to go to the hhd
 
I mean your SSD should be able to handle all that, but most put the NEW on the HDD as you can burn up an SSD fairly quick and then lose your OS.

That is best practice is to simply but video on the HDD rated for surveillance cameras.

SSDs are not really designed for the continuous writing on. Sure people have used enterprise ones and can get many years out of it, but if yours is a cheap consumer grade so it may not be able to keep up, but you will probably kill the SSD in a year or less like this person has twice:

Unfortunately, my main sytem SSD has failed again. It failed april 2022 and I replaced it. What am I doing wrong? It is a Sandisk 240GB SSD. On a Dell Optiplex. I inserted the drive to another computer and also can't get past the windows screen with a loading circle. I have unplugged it a few...

gotcha, ok i will move the new to the hhd....as sooon as i can get back in. crashed again, and keeps crashing quicker than i can even get to the storage settings.
 
moved new and alert to HHD. data base still on SSD (is that correct?)

nothing changed, still crashing
 
Did you try the ethernet driver? Change to brand to generic or vice versa whichever you are using.

If it still crashes then try the same with the video driver.

If it still crashes, then go in to BI and revert back to a stable version - maybe being a NOOB you are on essentially a beta version that is conflicting with something in your system.
