Human / Face detection

disabled all the cameras, cpu went to zero. i will add them back one by one now. removing them seemed pretty even, no big jumps. when i had half the cameras disabled CPU was at 50%....each camera seemed to lower it an even amount. hopefully when adding back one will standout.

so I enabled half the cameras one by one, all seemed pretty normal incremental. Each cam added a few percentages to CPU. Let those 8 cameras level out for a few minutes and watched. The 8 cams jumped to 35%. Disabled the 180 cam and things immediatly went back down to 15% and seems pretty steady. I'll let it run for a while, but the 180 cam seems to be a problem.

Something else though, is that while BI is reporting 15% CPU usage, task manager is reporting 60% usage (50% from BI).

That still seems high. Something else is going on.

I have way more cams than you on a 4th gen and way less CPU than you on a 12th gen.

OK, I see something running that says Dell Instrumentation and SmartByte - so I take it you did not do a clean Windows install using the Media Creation Tool?

Using that tool removes all the bloatware associated with the manufacturer and eliminates crap running that can be problematic for BI.

Something as simple as SmartByte could be effing up the whole application as it is conflicting with what BI is trying to do.

OK what would you suggest I do at this point? full reset of the OS using the Windows 11 Reset Tool?

Yeah it sucks to do that, but a full reset is the best.

I was there once too and after I did it, the machine was so much more responsive.

It fixes the problems many have.

I wouldn't use the reset tool as that will still bloat the Dell stuff.

Instead Create Windows 11 Installation Media (second option) by putting it on a USB and then booting from the USB drive.

dang, this is never simple and why I never do it. on the reinstall windows cant find my hard drive. I might format the drive and try again but I really dont like that idea. ill keep digging see if I can find a solution.

Yeah what should be 10 minutes is hours LOL.

How can it not find the drive unless Dell has somehow protected it to prevent someone from removing their bloatware.

A format may need to happen.

i added an ssd drive to this computer when i got it for storage, but the OS is on drive that came with computer. I may try to just unplug that drive

god damn. finally got a clean install of windows. just had to get the drivers, find another usb drive....but it took me a few hours to accomplish that. Setting up cameras now.

Gotta love when the 10minute task takes 5 hours!

Fingers crossed this takes care of it!

so before i get too far along adding the cameras.

I added three so far.

BlueIris is reporting 6% CPU while task manager is reporting 27% CPU attributed to Blue Iris.

So a fesh windows install and fresh blue iris install didnt solve the problem - so its either a setting on my cameras or something with my network?

I dont think its my network. I have 15 cameras and the desktop running blue iris on its own VLAN behind a physical firewall - only rule i have set up for this vlan (aside from what is default on the firewall) is blocked internet to the cameras. I have a toggle to swith everything off the firewall though, and turning everything off makes no difference.

I have checked my switch and controller everything seems to be working great.

The clip storage is all set to c drive for now.

Ugh.

OK lets go back to the beginning. Most of this is probably in the thread but lets confirm.

i7 12th gen - what is the full number?
32GB of RAM
Make/Model of SSD and HDD
Make/Model of VLAN switch?
Confirm ethernet port on BI computer is 1GB
Windows Defender turned off?
Indexing turned off?
System Restore turned off?
Substreams turned on?
Hardware Acceleration turned off?

17-12700 12th Gen
64GB RAM
SKHynix BC711 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 2230 30mm Solid State Drive (database, new, alerts)
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM008 2 TB 3.5" (not being used)
TPLink TL-3GS452P switch managed by TPLink OC200 controller
Firewalla Gold
Everthing is 1GB
Defender, indexing, system restore, hardware acceleration is on but made no difference off
Substreams on

Cameras and BI computer go to same switch?

Is it easy to temporarily take the OC200 controller out of the mix?

Post the full BI camera status screenshot. It would look something like this example from someone's post:
