Has anyone here in this Thread running Blue Iris tried this?

Keep considering it myself, but people seem to be having few problems, so probably leave for now, seems to have great potential though, especially for the cost, tried Sentry, but cancelled that after too many false alerts (BI itself could do better with some really fine tuning), look tricky for me to setup too, unless i can click "install" then i am goosed. lol

Can i nominate you for a test run. :D

it look like that the recent update apps when iPhone is locked, when someone press the doorbell it uses iPhone built in unlock screen that take the call like a normal phone call so it goes directly to the EZVIZ or Hik-Connect app enabling the mic.

If the phone is unlocked while the doorbell is pressed then it will open up the app viewer with the mic "red and green button" to either close the viewer (red) or turn on the mic (green).

I am not sure if it the iPhone forcing the mic to be enabled when answered using the Locked screen API or why they choose to enabled the mic from locked screen.

I spoke with EZVIZ support and he (Alex) said because "I am the only one" complaining about it so they don't consider it an issue.

If you don't like having mic automatically enabled when answering the doorbell call - contact EZVIZ support at 1-855-693-9849 and let them know!!!! The person I spoke to is Alex
So I was right yesterday when I asked if it made a difference if the phone was locked or unlocked. On Android the app has a specific permission to work also when the phone is locked. Please check if the app has all the necessary permissions, I don't know how to check on iOS, I hate the Apple ecosystem and philosophy, so I never used any of their devices. :)

We went over the setting and checked the permission etc.

I suspect that EZVIZ developer decided to use the iPhone API for incoming call which forces us to go directly to app's answer mode.

The old way when there is a incoming call from DB - The app notification opens up in front of the locked screen prompting us to accept or ignore it. If we accept it then it goes to the app viewer and you will view who at the door with a red and green button on the bottom of the viewer. The mic default at disabled unless you press the green button to enable it.

Now the recent update app, it uses the iPhone locked screen to acknowledge that there is an incoming call and you have to use the iPhone slider to accept the call where it goes to another screen selection which contain a button for EZVIZ app .. When you press that button it open up a viewer with the mic enabled.

You can quickly press the mic button at the bottom to mute it as soon it open up

but ......... if you were standing behind the door which is near the doorbell and want to screen to see who at the door before opening it, generate a nice screaming feedback when you answer the doorbell call starling the person on other side of the door.

They need to put it back the way it was before the last update .......

But the strange thing I noticed is the black/grey area on the notification where there should be a picture of the visitor. It made me think about a permission problem on the locking screen.

Did you try hikvision or guarding vision? do they exist for iOS?

Hik-Connet also been updated to use iPhone locked screen API as well too. Hik-Connect is the app I use until I saw that change so I switch back to EZVIZ and they also changed it to use the iPhone API as well too.

I have not yet tried Guarding Vision and I plan to try it later today. I use that app before until I switched over to Hik-Connect because it supported tablet mode with a log of calls on the sidebar.

I never really like the EZVIZ app because it have a slight delay with the splash logo screen when loading. They want to shake their brand "butt" in front of us every time we open that app .. shakes his head

I just ran across the Thread recently, been reading some, looks like they are ironing out any issues. I agree, looks like it has potential, but I am like you, need a setup/install button :) I know some here are into Docker so was wondering if someone here with BI and our DB may be using it.

I already nominated you ;) haha

They're all very similar. With small customizations, for the GUI mostly. But Guarding Vision didn't update in quite some time, that might work for you. If it does, don't update it. :)

On the iPhone, EZVIZ app is completely different now with a new layout than before.

it look like they are paving way for new product coming up or something using the same app to maintain it. It used to look similar to Hik-Connect but now it not and it's not tablet friendly anymore.

Guarding Vision is using it own notification to notify of doorbell pressed instead of built in iPhone API. It goes directly to its viewer with both red and green button and the mic disabled until you hit the green button.

I bet it won't be long until Guarding Vision is upgraded to use iPhone API but for now you can use it to avoid mic being enabled when you are answering the the doorbell alert to see who at the door. It's similar to Hik-Connect layout.

So GV it is for the moment. But then you have to uninstall the ezviz app right? Because the ezviz ap will appear with their phone screen. You cant stop that in ios. The answering doorbell switch in both apps work on bothe apps at the same time. An notifications does not stop the answering screen from ezviz. Or am i wrong?

The EZVIZ red/green buttons screen will come up if you answer it on a unlocked iPhone screen from the EZVIZ banner notification that appear from the top.

On the locked screen, that notification banner has been replaced with a iPhone locked slider bar.

Edited - It turn out I was wrong about this after testing it some more .. both lock and unlock screen answer with mic enabled. But in a blink of an eye, I sworn I could see the old style red / green button viewer come up for a second before being switched over to the new viewer .. maybe it just my eye playing tricks on me ..

@TechBill my EZVIZ app updated and defaulted to iPhone api on DB push, so I put it back to always in the notifications, now just the EZVIZ answer decline page shows on push. Not sure if I understood your concern.
Hrmm I don't see an "Always" in the setting ...

Here what it look like EZVIZ app using iPhone API when DB button is pressed -

Here what the EZVIZ app viewer look like when you slide to answer the DB.
The mic is enabled instantly so if you want to answer with it mute then you have to remember to quickly mute it.
What would be the purpose of the reject button if the mic is going to be enabled and they can hear you or the background???? You answered - They heard you ... and the reject is for?

EZVIZ Developer need to change it that the mic is muted at default when answering then there is a purpose for Reject button :p

Guarding Vision iPhone app (both EZVIZ and Hik-Connect app were similar to this before the recent update)
Here what it look like when DB is pressed

Guarding Vision Viewer after you press on Call Request notification on locked screen
The mic is muted on default when answering until you hit the green button to talk to them or you can hit the red button to ignore answering the doorbell.

Does it help clear up what issue I am facing with the upgraded change?
Really annoying ... for now I am using Guarding Vision and hopefully the developer realized or I missed a setting somewhere on the app to have the mic muted at default when answering the door ..

If there a setting that set mic muted as default, please do share it and where this setting is at. I will be thanking you for it!!!

HA! ... Got a reply back from EZVIZ ,,, I knew it.... And now the senior tech acknowledged the change .....

Here a snippet from the email ...

Hello,

Thank you for writing to the Ezviz tech team.

This is one of the senior product specialists from the Ezviz tech team.

Yes, the doorbell is currently set in such a way that as soon as you answer the call the mic will be enabled automatically, this was done as some of our customers complained about the mic not working while answering the phone.

We will certainly take your current feedback about this and password it on to our engineers for any future upgrades.

Please tap on the person icon at the bottom right corner of the app and tap on feedback and leave the feedback from your end as well so that our engineers can work on that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

And they are saying that folks who were complaining couldn't see a huge fat green button at the bottom of the screen?!?!?!

Who were those that are folks complaining? LOL!!!!!!

I did request that they add an option in the setting to either have the mic default set to disabled / enabled when answering the doorbell alert. I suggest everyone leave feedback too if you want the default setting for mic to be disabled when answering a DB alert.
