According to reports, Putin is making a billion dollars per day selling his energy to Europe. If we were energy independent, like we were, we would be exporting energy to the EU and the price per barrel would probably be somewhere around $45.
Russia's economy isn't getting better with the war and sanctions .. factories shutting down due to supply chain issues now ..A couple of months ago the media and forums were full of bragging how the economic sanctions against Russia were tanking its economy, a major indicator being the ruble losing value against other currencies. The tide has turned, and today the ruble is at a 2 year high against the US dollar. At the same time the euro is at a 5-1/2 year low against the US dollar. Right now, it looks like it's the EU that's getting creamed by the sanctions. Are the sanctions maybe a shoot one's self in the foot knee-jerk reaction?
Here in the US and old enough to remember Nicholas at Barings Bank a few years prior to EnronDoing a bit of browsing on this subject I can't help but think of a once successful company called Enron. Those of you in the US and old enough should know how that played out.
Now that's a choice - unpaid leave and starve or starve and die in Ukraine.Russia's economy isn't getting better with the war and sanctions .. factories shutting down due to supply chain issues now ..

Further to the above Hungary also has a veto on any proposals. See linkHow's this for doublespeak? In the front of the story:
European Union countries will stop importing Russian oil and refined products.....
“We will phase out Russian supply of crude oil within six months and refined products by the end of the year,” ......“This will be a complete import ban on all Russian oil, seaborne and pipeline, crude and refined.”
Then further down:
There would still be exemptions for some countries, including Hungary and Slovakia, and natural gas has yet to be targeted with sanctions.
Complete, with exemptions. The politicians have redefined another word.
‘It will not be easy’: EU unveils plans to ban all Russian oil imports
seen some very awful news from this conflict .. imho it will just get worse ..Pretty gruesome. The horrors of a war unfolding and at the minute unending. There will be more of this on both sides until Russia withdraws.
After some combatants were killed in another totally unrelated incident a long time ago I remember a thoughtful mother reflecting "they are somebody's sons"
agreed .. imho Ukraine needs to hit the Russian Oil and Gas supply in the East as well as what is feeding the Black Sea and Artic ... as well as all Rail in Russia ..'After some combatants were killed in another totally unrelated incident a long time ago I remember a thoughtful mother reflecting "they are somebody's sons"'
They are all sons, daughters, husbands, wife's, fathers and mothers...they always have been. Putin attached a sovereign nation, has killed untold amounts of civilians. I really don't care what happens to the invaders. If Ukraine wants to win, they need to get nasty, they need to be brutal and unrelenting. Of course, that is just my opinion.
Can't disagree. The Log Train drives the war. Disrupt it and you will certainly have the upper hand.agreed .. imho Ukraine needs to hit the Russian Oil and Gas supply in the East as well as what is feeding the Black Sea and Artic ... as well as all Rail in Russia ..
I 100% agree! We learn from each other.Your opinion is as valuable mine
i have the benefit of sitting safely here in my home, thousands of miles away affording me a more philosophical outlook. A luxury in very short supply in Ukraine at the minute.
I agree and i think Ukraine need / will up the ante the longer this goes on.
Energy crisis - the structure of the momentI agree and i think Ukraine need / will up the ante the longer this goes on.
