What happened when V4 was released? Were V3 updates still available or did they cease? Could be V5 is almost here.
BI 3 stopped receiving updates entirely when V4 was released. You could still click the button but it would just tell you that BI 4 was now available.

I imagine it would take some pretty exceptional circumstances for Ken to build another V4 update after V5 is out. Like if a Windows update or something made it unusable for a significant number of people, or a serious security vulnerability was discovered.

I've been thinking this through over the past several days. Ken does incredible work; I've never used a software product which was updated so often. $60.00 for the software plus $30.00 a year for updates would not be unreasonable IMO. When 5.0 comes out I'll be purchasing an Extended Service plan as soon as I need to. Thumbsmiley20.gif

Today...
  1. 4.8.4.3 is running on my Blue Iris server
  2. Manually downloaded the Blue Iris installer from Download Blue Iris
  3. Stopped the Blue Iris Windows Service on by server
  4. Ran (as Administrator) the BI installer I had previously downloaded
  5. Rebooted my Blue Iris server
  6. Blue Iris Options > About reports that 4.8.4.4 is installed

I guess I'll need to do this for now. And also do it with my backup BI machine. Then when version 5 comes out, I'll purchase the extended service plan for both my primary and secondary BI license. So I can upgrade to the new version.

Downloading and manually installing the update file does the same thing.

I just rewed the support and the update feature is available :)

Its fine imo, i personally always buy the new version, but i been more than happy with it, i think $30 a year is fair.

Ken deserves the $30 per year for "support" whether you ever use it or not.
Set it up when you purchase extended support so it auto renews each year, I did.
Besides, It's painless to manually download the update and install from the BI website.

Free lunch? We paid $60 for this program.
So that entitles you to free updates for life? WTF are you smoking. 60 dollars is NOTHING in the vms arena. Most charge more than 60 for a SINGLE license PER CAMERA.

Did something change? Because I was able to update both of my Blue Iris PCs using the update button in the BI settings. Or is that only because I had not updated them in awhile?

Read the complete post.

for updates to work after the first year you must pay for maintenance and support.

you can manually update from the website
  1. Navigate to Download Blue Iris
  2. Download the Blue Iris Installer executable
  3. Right-click the installer Installer executable (.exe file and navigate to Properties > Detail to view the installer version
  4. Execute the installer to install that version of Blue Iris on your machine
  5. Note: If "Run As Service" is enabled, I always stop the Blue Iris Windows Service before I do a manual install, but I don't believe stopping the Bi service is necessarily required

Yes. The recent updates crippled this feature. So you won’t be able to do that again.
