I will be buying a Hikvision DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR and I was thinking 4 Amcrest IP2M-852EB cameras. I was wondering if anyone has experience getting Amcrest cameras working on Hikvision NVR?

I guess my question is, will they be compatible? or is there a better recommendation out there for a weatherproof 2mp POE bullet cam?

Welcome Prokott,

Those bullets have one of the worst case and base designs I have seen. I would recommend not purchasing them based on the case alone as they just fugly.

If you have not yet purchased the NVR I would recommend going through the cliff notes as they do cover the topic you've mentioned.

Can you recommend a more "Un-fugly" POE cam at sub $80?

you obviously know there may be issues. Why would you choose these items in particular? makes no sense. See the wiki as mentioned.

Hi Prokott,

If you're picking up the Hikvision NVR also pick up cameras from that vendor that will work with the NVR.

If not, do take a look at the cliff notes.

Hi Prokott,

Hopefully you've had a chance to look at the cliff notes, as the answer to your question is a
definitely maybe.

It gets more complex, and requires checking on specs of both the cameras and nvr, compatibility, what you are looking for in terms of functionality,... I didn't really have time earlier to get into all of these issues, and thus the shorter answers and referral to the Cliff Notes which describes the issues in more details.

If you're getting an NVR, the easiest solution is to get cameras for the NVR from the same vendor you got the NVR - informing or asking the vendor for which cameras will work with that NVR. Probably easier to just buy a pre-assembled kit. Granted it may not provide what you want, and that's requires some more research on your part, thus the referral to the Cliff notes.

Hikvision mates well with Hikvision
Dahua mates well with Dahua
Hikvision NVR and Dahua Camera (vice versa) together is big no-no
But----Blue Iris + Hikvision camera + Dahua camera = should be no problem :D
