    Crested Caracara pair

Caracara is not the national bird of Mexico but is often thought to be. They are kin to the falcon but since they eat dead stuff on the side of the road, I thought of them as Mexican buzzards. They are much better looking than the buzzards.

NVR8-8580RN + Outdoor weatherproof PoE Wifi Switch??

Mine was 220 - 44 so price has come down. The octide is showing up as 129. I'm thinking of ordering one of them to replace a bvtech I've got in an old cable box.

    Funny / Satire

OMG, I ordered a capacitor for my a/c once and the wrong item was sent. After I verified that I had not screwed up I figured that the wrong item must have been in that bin. I returned it and asked for it to be replaced. I must not have read the form properly because they sent "the exact same "...

NVR8-8580RN + Outdoor weatherproof PoE Wifi Switch??

Yes, I've been using a Cqenpr for about a year now. While checking Amazon to get info on mine, I noticed that the price on the one you linked to is $130. Much cheaper than the egg site.

NVR8-8580RN + Outdoor weatherproof PoE Wifi Switch??

Not sure if I understand your question. This is a POE switch for outdoor use. All cameras connected to it will be seen on the router that it is connected to. If your nvr is on that network, it will see the cameras. There is no wifi involved.

    Working on Truck

@SJGUSMC21 I have had high temperature problems with my Cummins in a 2016. What I suspect was happening was not a high temperature but an indicated high temperature. I believe that I was drawing a bubble at the temperature sending unit and since it was not in liquid it was indicating erratic...

I've used an electrical box cover on the back side of the soffits to distribute the weight. Not enough for heavier cameras but you could put the aluminum flat stock on the backside also where it won't be seen...

Using cameras for before/after shots - Yard makover

Hah! When I lived in NY, we would shovel snow to see who could get the highest pile. Then see who had snow the longest in the spring. All for bragging rights!

    Opinions needed

Another question... I've got one of the 180 cams and a booby cam. I am undecided which one to use. Off to the left (west) is an irrigation well with an expensive controller that I would like to monitor and of course the driveway. I bought the booby cam from Andy for this but then along came the...

I've got a good fiberglass fish tape but will probably be unable to find it on the other side. This is why I need a bigger opening. I am wary about unsealed openings being an inviting home for pests. Every thing is hollow but I doubt holes were drilled between the horizontal and vertical...

    Opinions needed

I was going to ask @Flintstone61 about that. My thoughts were to put one panel along the top on the left and right. The right would be for a gate opener and accent lights. This would provide symmetry and look better? That is the south face so the panel would indeed shade the camera. I do worry...

I'm mounting a camera on the left column of my entry gate. I have already welded the purlin where it will be mounted. It will be solar powered so the solar panels will probably be mounted on the horizontal section at the top. I was originally going to use rigid conduit to run the wires from the...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

@builder I agree that 3/4 is too small and wish I had not cheaped out when I used it. Worse yet, I ran some 14 ga romax in 1/2 EMT. A previous owner ran two lengths of PVC water pipe to a well and used one as conduit. Luckily, the wire is retired so cutting into the wrong pipe was not painful...

Plastic pipe to bury in yard as conduit for future wire pulls

So many things will protect your low voltage cable including garden hose. My concern is when we start misusing one on another. If I am digging and see grey PVC, I assume electrical. White PVC, I assume water. If I saw this pipe and cut into it, I would assume that I cut a gas line. That might...

    Solar powered remote ipcamera

I am working on a similar project based on @TRLcam posts above. I am going with a 24 vdc solar panel and batteries. Solar from Amazon and batteries from battery hookup. They have the K2B24V10EB 9.6 ah for $49. I am getting <8 ah from them so will be using two. I went with a Centopto din rail POE...

Listen up people --- Florida is not a fully tamed State

Don't know if true or not but I have been told that gators cannot back up. This guy was caught between a wall and stair landing. The guy that happened upon him came down the stairs and heard the hissing when he set foot on the bottom landing. It wasn't happy when it finally got free. I don't...

    Let's talk LED bulbs.

This is a sticker on lights that I'm installing today. I'm setting them at 4. Note the difference between 102 watts and 180 watts. Pretty insignificant increase in lumens for 78 watts.

LED lightbulb "hacking" .. fixing and cooling

I bought a fixture several years ago and paid $17extra for an LED bulb. It was a "corn row" bulb. Probably within a couple of months I noticed strange spots beneath the light. It was all the LEDs from the bulb. Inspections revealed that the manufacturer used metal tape sticky side out as the...

    Computer hard drive

One thing I have not seen mentioned is grounding. The drives will come in a static free bag. Just walking on carpet this time of year you can build up enough static to destroy sensitive electronics. I generally don't wear my wrist wire but will touch the metal case frequently to keep from...

    Let's talk LED bulbs.

I just bought some 12w dc LEDs that claimed 100w equivalent. They quoted 900 lumens. The 100w is a power usage so even in incandescent bulbs, the lumens would vary. Most of the power in an incandescent is wasted in heat. My 12w bulbs measured out to 10w. I would guess they are closer to 60w...

    POE switch needed?

One thing you should keep in mind is that the nvr is probably limited to 8 cameras total. So even if you power two from a Poe switch and access them over the network, you will not be able to use the other two nvr ports. A couple of other limitations you might run into is the power requirements...
