I think I would still use a standard switch. It gives you options for expansion and only requires one power source (plus you could use a UPS to cover power outages)...

If you are trying to power a camera with POE it needs 48 volts. You need to find an injector that is 802.3af compliant.

Yeah, the best bet is a point to point bridge with 100% unobstructed line of sight. That means mounting them at LEAST 12 feet high to avoid trucks and what not.

I know, but I have run into 3 or 4 cases in the last 2 years where a Xeon powered computer had some terribly under powered on-board graphics that could not cut the mustard, and the only real options for a video card that worked were $400 or more. Tough to justify that in most cases.

If you suspect a disk issue, I strongly recommend getting a copy of Spinrite and letting it analyze your disk. It is a VERY old school program, but it is the best on the market without question. You can find it here: https://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

That is fine, and you may very well be correct but as I said it is an easy enough thing to test.

The problem with Xeon in a lot of cases is that the motherboard is built to support a server so it can be quite difficult to find video cards that can handle CCTV streaming for server motherboards.

I would avoid mounting it with the data ports facing up unless you have a dust cover. Just flip it so the ports face the floor.

If you turn it off at the camera but turn it on at the NVR it should work, but you have just put the processing requirement on the NVR and not the camera. This is a very easy thing to test.

I would not recommend that, since the power budget for the NVR is typically much lower than an equivalent dedicated switch. You could do it with an injector at the NVR, but I would not push it with the POE being provided from the NVR.
