Hikvision's new 4MP 2-series

Can't wait to see low light/night shots! Day looks great!

The aspect ratio of the CMOS sensor of the two cameras is different.
3MP: 2048/1536=1.33
4MP: 2688/1520=1.76
Hence the 4MP camera has a wider horizontal field of view i.e. it looks more wide as if the lens has a shorter focal length.
The horizon (notice the pavement line just behind the cars) looks more curved on the 4MP camera.

Two night shots as promised:

For these night shots, the cam is set to "Day", and matches the settings posted earlier. Once I have some time on my hands during the nighttime I'll try to tweak the settings to improve the image.

@fenderman yes, it is. And I'm confident if I can have some time with it to tweak it I can get a much better picture out of it without using IR. Give me a few days :)

Thanks for the new pics. Very helpful! Higher exposure time helps but then the motion blur is so bad I'm not sure it is worthwhile.

how much you paid for the MP camera?

I assume you meant "the 4 MP camera", in which case on page 4 he said it was $195 including DHL shipping. Also the model was "DS-2CD2542FWD-IS (Firmware: V5.3.2 build 150603, Encoding: V7.0 build 150525)" which is probably a bit pricier than most of the others.

It looks to me that those day shots, the 4MP camera doesn't have a blurring on the outside edges like the 3MP does (look at the red car on the left for 3MP to see what Im saying). Not sure if the 3MP is out of focus or there is just that much difference with the jump up to 4MP. Looks really good. Thanks for sharing.

There was also reason to believe the picture was being slightly upscaled to reach 3MP on the 3MP series, but that wouldn't account for blur on the edges. I think it is most likely just luck of the draw with the lens optics and factory-set focus.

I was to be honest expecting more, and the barrelling is terrible for a 4mb camera,
But then I'm a little piccy

For the added resolution, I think I would be very happy with the barrelling. Not sure going down below the 4mm would look good, but still, I think this picture looks great.

The field of view was already so wide on the 4mm 3mp cameras that it was almost amazing for my uses. I'll be interested to see what even wider looks like, but the old field of view was fine. It almost looks to me like I could get a 6mm lens and be at the same field of view as the old 3mp camera but have much better looking views. I really have no need for even wider shots, but the same shot with 25% more detail would be my perfect improvement. I need to get one of these to test with Exacq but I'm waiting on a US seller as I won't try the overseas purchasing.

Someone was warning people off buying from these guys either on here or a different forum. 94.7% feedback seems low but might be worth a punt.

Btw fenderman... it's for 4!

yes i made the correction in my post 30 seconds after I posted it.

I think you corrected it as I was posting. Sorry!

Bullets look nicer IMO, so that's one reason. I also think bullets are a better visual deterrent. But I do agree turrets > domes unless they are within easy reach.
