Hi all,

By coincidence stumbled across this community, really interesting info!

We recently moved in a new house, and was looking for some camera's to monitor the (small) driveway as well as the backyard.
Have been browsing AliExpress for quite some time, but could not decide what to do.
And now I feel very lucky I didn't, as I learned that the (really) cheap Dahua models seem to have hacked (or at least modified) firmware... :)

Not sure if this is the right forum-section for these questions, but here goes.
Just to know, I have CAT-cables running to my garage from a POE-switch (Ubiquiti) in the house.

Driveway

The driveway is shared with my neighbours, but would like a camera to understand if anyone is/was on my part of the driveway.
Also, because our frontdoor is located at this driveway it would be interesting to understand whether people actually were at my door.

Here I was looking for a "regular" cam, nothing too fancy (no PTZ).
I would like to mount the cam directly to the area highlighted with the blue rectangle (as I can still go through the brickwall there easily).
The idea is to have a cam which does not stand out of the surrounding, so no big mounts and stuff.
(I could paint the housing black/brown to match the brick wall)

Backyard
As in the back of the house I have a sliding door (which might not be the most secure solution), I was also looking for a cam there.
The backyard ends up in a small stream and behind that there is a park, children playing, people having a walk, etc.

For this part I was looking for a cam which has PTZ and some basic zoom.

So far, I was thinking of

IPC-HDBW4231F-AS (US $118.43 6% OFF|Nieuwe collectie 2MP Starlight IR Mini Dome Network camera IPC HDBW4231F AS, gratis verzending DHL-in Beveiligingscamera´s van Veiligheid en bescherming op AliExpress) for the driveway.
And
SD22204UE-GN (US $154.35 6% OFF|Nieuwe Model SD22204UE GN 2MP 4x Starlight PTZ Network Camera, gratis verzending DHL-in Beveiligingscamera´s van Veiligheid en bescherming op AliExpress)

Any comment is appreciated!

Welcome to IPCT.

If you haven't already done so, please check the Wiki, in the blue title bar, and be sure to read the Cliff Notes in it. Personally, I'd use two cameras at the rear, one for over view and one for watching the sliding door and rear windows and arrange them so they watch each other, too, rather than a PTZ. PTZ cameras always end up looking in the wrong direction at the wrong time. The driveway camera is relatively simple and anywhere on your garage will work, but don't mount any of them above seven feet or so.

I'd also suggest you contact Andy, EmpireTechAndy, here on IPCT rather than just buying from Ali Express. He stands behind what he sells, his cameras are "International" and can be upgraded as new firmware becomes available. His shipping, on a worldwide basis, is very fast as well. Unfortunately, it's Chinese New Year and everything over there has basically shut down for the duration, say the 1st of February.

You'll probably find cameras end up as a growing "need" once you start with them.

Use IPC-HDW5231R-ZE black is good to go, and a SD1A203T-GN with a PFB203W black, this one need some drilling, make a DIY to install.
Then can be good.

Welcome @Fried

Wished you had posted here before the brickwork went up, as that would have made the job easier.

I really like this camera at eye level by the doors / entrances - ideally best when you have enough light around to keep the camera in full color mode all the time ( to avoid IR light bounce back issues with dome cameras )

For other cameras see the reviews that SouthernYankee has links to in his welcome post. The 4MP starlight+ models look interesting.
