Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

No, I was pointing out that bridge designers learned "a lot" from the Tacoma Bridge Disaster. Never thought that history would repeat itself again! Somebody got a hold of an old and expired copy of a suspension bridge blueprint. Must have prioritized on speed over safety :(

Working backwards? I was showing Andy what bridges do when they start to move like that.

Sorry I misunderstood you. I hate forums and social media sometimes.

I found this to be interesting, a good summary

WHO as a scientific authority having ideological agendas - accepting traditional Chinese Medicine, which is not scientifically proven. Covers why this is an issue.

VisualPolitik EN

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the international benchmark for health. Their role in managing the SARS Coronavirus 2 pandemic has been critical: all states have followed their recommendations sooner or later. In addition, the WHO is the arbitrator that determines which treatments are valid and which are pseudoscience.

For decades, this institution has been considered apolitical. Their decisions, in theory, are based only on scientific, not ideological criteria. However, this could be changing. For 2022, the WHO has already announced that it will include some traditional Chinese medicine practices in its international vademecum. This means that both governments around the world and insurance agencies could start getting traditional Chinese remedies as a form of medicine, being as valid as science.

To what extent is this decision motivated by political or scientific reasons? Why is it a danger that traditional Chinese medicine will enter the WHO vademecum? Why should we be wary of traditional Chinese medicine? In this video, we will tell you.

True, but they're all members of the same family.

The number of people wearing so-called 'masks' which clearly are not N95 compliant is just ridiculous.
Wearing a mask might make them feel better, but it provides no protection whatsoever against COvid-19.

The purpose of masking in public isn't to protect yourself (cloth masks won't protect you from much), it is to protect others from you.

Even a simple cloth multilayer mask can significantly reduce the spread of infectious droplets from the wearer. It's a containment mechanism, albeit a far from from perfect one. Significantly better than nothing, though. Watch any of the videos online showing how coughing can spread droplets up to like 12 feet, while masking can reduce the distance traveled to a foot or two.

What they don't do is protect the wearer. You basically need an N95 for that. But, a lot of N95 masks out there in common use have valves that release when you exhale, so if you are an asymptomatic carrier, your infection is spread with little restriction. Places are starting to require non-valved masks.

In many/most places, we've been asked to wear masks FOR THE PURPOSE OF REDUCING SPREAD IN THE EVENT THE WEARER IS A CARRIER. Given the propensity for COVID-19 to create asymptomatic carriers, it's a prudent precaution.

I encourage everyone to comply.
