Recommendation for outdoor IP WIFI cameras

Hello everyone, I am totally new to IP camera. I have setup my own system that pre-packed all in one system with 4 cameras. My company requires a little more for our parking lots. I am looking for outdoor IP WIFI cameras that can work up 200ft-300ft clear space.

DO not use wifi for cameras.
For that distance look at Ubiquiti nano station. there are a number of long distance radio/wireless network.
Wifi can be blocked, jammed. It is simple to do.

Quick start
1) If you do not have a wired monitored alarm system, get that first
2) Use Dahua starlight cameras or Hikvision darkfighter cameras if you need good low light cameras.
3) use a VPN to access home network (openVPN)
4) Do not use wifi cameras.
5) Do not use cloud storage
6) Do Not use uPNP, P2P, QR, do not open ports,
7) More megapixel is not necessarily better.
8) Avoid chinese hacked cameras (most ebay, amazon, aliexpress cameras(not all, but most))
9) Do not use reolink, ring, nest, Arlo cameras (they are junk), no cloud cameras
10) If possible use a turret camera , bullet collect spiders, dome collect dirt and reflect light (IR)
11) Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum)
12) use a test mount to verify the camera mount location. My test rig: rev.2
13) (Looney2ns)If you want to be able to ID faces, don't mount cams higher than 7ft. You want to know who did it, not just what happened.
14) Use a router that has openVPN built in (Most ASUS, Some NetGear....)

and I'll just add that wifi is terribly unreliable. My past experiences are that you'll have something that will not work at all part of the time and when it does, it will be a constant fidget battle to get anything. And really, just knowing the odds of how things work, most likely when you'll need it to have captured something, it will have been having one of its trouble times.


You mention this is for a company. If it's for a business then you'll want reliability and more effort will be needed for a proper install. Not trying to scare you off. I'm just saying that to get it done right might require some work. Running/burying cables, proper camera placement, quality cameras not just based off a spec listing on the side of a box at Costco/Sams.

It CAN be done. Don't be scared. YOU can do it.

We are in a area that wiring is stuff. These IP cameras can be wire free correct? I am hearing dont use wifi which I understand but do all of these cameras need to be hard wired?

Even a WiFi camera needs power and that means it has a wire for power.

A standalone pole for power yes but we were hoping that the IP camera could be wireless which is not a option?

If you are mounting to poles with power, search the forum for ubiquiti point to point wireless solutions. They will require line of sight.

As previously mentioned, the Ubiquity Nano Station Loco will allow a wireless connection that is a dedicated RF link rather than "WiFi". Much higher security, throughput and reliability. It will take additional equipment, cost, but is well worth every penny spent.
