How to view Dahua cameras without browser plugins

I'm running a Mac, and because I'll soon be on MacOS 10.15 (Catalina), and SmartPSS won't work anymore, I updated the NVR5216 to the latest plugin free v4 firmware here.

The firmware installed fine, and I now can access the NVR without plugins just fine from Safari, but when playing back any NVR recordings it's VERY slow and laggy. Is this expected behavior?

I was so happy to log into the NVR and have full access, plugin free, but playing back any recording is so slow.

Any configuration setting that might fix this? The 32-bit SmartPSS plays back perfectly on MacOS 10.14.6, but the 32-bit version won't run on 10.15 (Catalina), and the 64-bit version isn't expected until December.

Could you describe what you're seeing in more detail?

Once the video is playing, does it play smoothly or does it remain laggy / drop frames?
Is the delay just when you start playback or move to a new spot on the timeline? If this is the case it may not be unusual.

Try a different browser like chrome or firefox.

MacOS 10.15.6 with Safari, but same issue with Chrome and Firefox.

On v4 of the NVR firmware, everything is perfect and responsive except when I actually play a recording. I can move around the interface just fine, and bounce from screen to screen just fine.

When I click on a recording, the playing of the recording is choppy. With SmartPSS or when accessing on a Windows machine (with the plugin), the recordings play fine. The recordings are from a 5830 or 5231, the main stream, H.265. With SmartPSS the 5830 shows 5000 kb/s 3072*1728 and the 5231 shows 2000 kb/s 1920*1080, while playing an IVS recording.

If I play the sub-stream "live", it seems to play fine, but that's not what's recorded (the IVS). Windows with the plugin runs fine, but my main machine is the Mac.

It plays somewhat decent, but not fluid. SmartPSS plays perfectly on the same Mac, but as soon as I update to 10.16, SmartPSS will cease working.

I bought IPC-HDW5831R-ZE which looney tested and this camera DOES REQUIRE plugin for web-browsing. But I thought does not.

So, can anybody answer does IPC-HDW5831R-Z require plugin?

What are you folks using these days for SD card playback via a web browser, I just noticed that pale moon does not work anymore.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Windows 10 and I have tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Pale Moon.
IPC-HDW2231R-ZS camera.

Anyone on a Macbook Pro able to define intrusions etc on their Dahua camera? (the 4K-X, if that distinction matters)

I'm on MacOS 11.6, and have tried Firefox (regular) & Developer Edition, Safari, Chrome, and Pale Moon to no effect.

I can edit all the other settings on the camera except when it comes to defining rules, and have to draw lines, or boxes etc. It repeatedly hits me in the face with a 'Please draw now' prompt.

And everything else seems peachy as far as interacting with the camera. I can watch live feeds on the camera or on the Synology Surveillance Station software and so on, but have hit a wall where drawing rules is concerned.

I haven't owned a windows box in countless years, so I hope that isn't the solution. It seems a tad perverse that Dahua would make this as difficult as it seems, when everything else feels almost effortless. When I saw someone finally found their solution by using Pale Moon I jumped at down loading it, but it's the same old thing. It's not that I'm not using a mouse, is it? I'm on a laptop, and never connect a mouse, but I will if that's the hold up.

Thanks

IE really is the way. I run Mac environments and for this kind of thing run windows in a sandboxed VM using Parallels or Virtualbox

Yeah, this is the first Mac in more than a decade which isn't running a Parallels Windows system, because as you say, some things just need it. I have an old iMac still running windows so if that's all I have then I can give that a whirl. I was hoping to sidestep that old machine. And the reverse used to be true .. a dozen yrs ago I had a Toughbook which I fashioned into a Macbook Pro entirely.

It’s easier to just install the plug-in for chrome

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Except for the cameras that then will not hold their settings. Like the 49225 PTZ will only track for 15 seconds unless you set it in Explorer...

Some of my other cams wouldn't hold settings either, and it is too much trouble to remember which camera works with chrome and which one doesn't, so I just use explorer for all of them.

I 'may' have had some luck tonight without IE, just using Chrome ..

I was running through key combos while I made the final click to define a tripwire and unbelievably it released the endless line loop BS and I was able to save it!

This is a fresh discovery using Chrome on a Macbook Pro 16 MacOS 11.6 BigSur, and I believe the key combo that releases the line is the option+command together with the final defining mouse(pad) click.

***Nope, scratch that. It was a fake-out. I tried to replicate it just now and it failed. BUT then I considered that for some unknown reason it may only be the number of terminal clicks I made which mattered.

So I defined my tripwire and then on the final click I just stayed on that same spot and clicked until I could tell the line had released, and then again, I was able to save it. I have no idea if it will work or not, since it's going to snow all night and will likely be triggered needlessly until I can tweak it.

TL;DR - If you're using a Mac, jump on Chrome setup defining your tripwire BUT repeatedly (but slowly so you can move the pointer a bit to see if it's released yet) click until the line releases and then hit save. The magic number of clicks after completing the tripwire area seems to be 16. In my latest test, I defined a shape similar to the one below, and that got me to 5 clicks. By my 21st click on the same final spot the line released and green IVS-n appeared. And it was all save-able.

I like the comment 'by my 21st click', no ones got time for that amount of clicking, we're in 2021 :)

Yeah, right? You almost have to question the sanity of an idiot who would make such a discovery in the first place. :wtf:

I'm working on the intrusion rule now. It's looking a lot like 1024 clicks ought to suffice, so looks like we're good to go. thud

Update:

I just updated my MacOS to Monterey 12.0.1, which updated Safari as well (which I never use), but I thought I'd just open Safari anyhow to log into my Color4K-X to see if the new Safari version allowed me the magical powers to successfully define and save an intrusion rule. So I set about left clicking my simple area, and recalled that in some instances a 'Right' click would end the loop and allow the area to be define, and the rule to be saved. And it WORKED! No 16 click BS. It was literally 2.75 seconds and everything was defined and saved.

SO, if you're on a Mac and can update to Monterey OS, then do it and log into the Dahua camera web interface for what may just be a painless experience now!

I am holding off on updating until the first of the New Year. I want to be sure Monterey has all of the major bugs eliminated before I take the plunge. That does look promising, though. Right now, I am using Chrome to view the camera web page.
